really wanted to be anurse and maybe specialise in mental health

but doctor ( and other posters on here ) , one with experience in the job , has given me the advice I may not wanted to hear but was the truth...nursing, teaching etc is a very stressful career , even for people without chronic pain and depression..which is what I have

I have been out of work, on and off , for 15 years

in that time I returned to college and retrained as a painter and decorator ...but its too hard on my body

I went through a list of jobs my friends do and , I laugh at this, I simply couldnt find anything I would like to do..lol

working , part time , in the caring role is a possibility

but teaching, nursing, law , accountancy ...any of the proffessions would require at least 3 years of study , and hard study at that

what I do have is empathy and sympathy with people who are ...less than well ?...does that make any sense ?

decorating was good fun...but I never met anyone doing that ...no social life....and I cant do that anymore anyway

I am sure there are lots of us who have been frustrated like this ?

but engineering, IT, dentist, solicitor, accountant..it just aint me

I might add, I used to work with the homeless and people with drug and alcohol problems.....but doc says to keep away from conflict and agression areas if possible as it will give me flare ups

the more I hear about nursing , the more than becomes apparent

looking at it logically , someone who has been in and out of work for 15 years due to health problems......looking to go into what is known as a stressful profession ..nursing , teaching etc ...is a bit unrealistic ?

Im afraid so nursing is not just about stress its heavy going ur on ur feet all day & not guaranteed a break in ur shift if its busy not a profession to be in if u have serious health issues Take care & good luck finding a job that suits u x

There is an old saying if you can't do it ... teach. Could you train others to be painters decorators?

    What do you like doing?

What do you need/not need in a job? ie a mixture of walking and sitting ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
