    Hi Jenny

    The poor lad :(

My heart goes out to him and to you too - as a mum I know how awful it is to see them suffer and be so helpless :(

26th April is such a long way off

Would you be able to try oral steroids from the GP?? Or is he already on them? If he is sorry for being so forgetful

As for the seats at school he should be able to take a cushion surely? They must want him there so surely they will allow this at least.

Does he brak up this week too? I hope so - you can make him more comfortable at home with ice packs and wheaties etc and easier to distract with computer games if you need to.

Dont apologise for not posting - you have clearly been having a rough time of it :(

    Take care of you both

    Love

    Hi
I agree with Toni see if your GP can do the steriod coz its a long time for him to be in pain
Try contacting Rheumy Docs again see if they can see him in an emergency
    Best of luck
Ita alwful watching them suffer when you cant help
    take care

wish my gp was so helpful he was reluctant to give him a repeat prescription for diclofenic last time i sore him saying that the consultant shouldn't prescribe anything to strong i just wish it was him in pain then maybe he would be more sympathetic i will also be glad when he breaks up this weekend but looks like our plans to take him to thorpe park are on hold for abit but may phone the rhummy nurse to see what she can suggest wheat bags and hot water bottles are ok but only for a short time i just hate to see him like this.

Sorry to hear he is suffering. Has Jordan tried a TENS machine? Its a non-medical form of pain relief and can be bought from chemists or through the hospital physio department (not sure if they still offer this, bought mine a long time ago).
I use mine when I'm bad and I'm restricted with meds at the mo due to pregnancy. I've even slept with it on (although I've taped the pads so they don't wander off in the night). It also offers something positive to do that won't have side effects. There's also no time limit to wearing it and Jordan can wear it under his clothes so it doesn't stand out at school.

Might be worth asking your GP if he/she thinks its a suitable option?

    Hope he's feeling better soon.

    Hi Jenny,

so sorry to read that Jordan is having so much pain. :( this must be such a worrying time for you as his mum......

As Toni and Maria said ...phone rheummy again about bringing Jordan in sooner for treatment...
don't they have arrangements for urgent requests for treatment? my hosp has a rheumatology day ward that I can phone if I need to be seen urgently, so might be worth finding out if your has something similar.
    or...
You could phone the consultant's secretary...again I have always found them to be very helpful and they have direct contact with their consultant...so would that be worth trying?
    or...
If all else fails and Jordan continues in such awful pain you could consider presenting him at A&E....he would have to be seen then. I know it's a bit radical but maybe that's what's necessary.

I do hope that you get some help..we are all here for you any time so please keep posting.x

You could also phone our helpline peeps in case they have other suggestions...and also for some support for you.

Is his seat too low. I know that used to aggravate my hips and knees ( before my R.A was more under control and hip replaced). Also the school might have those soft chairs for the secretary that moves about on wheels. They also get that out especially for me when I go to school asssemblies.
I know he wont want to stand out or get noticeably different/special treatment but a slightly higher chair would help...I know.

Can you put in a shower?Have you space/money for that?Sorry i know these things arent easy but if you can it will allow him some independence as I am sure he wont like mum helping him in and out of the bath.

    Dear Jenny

I am so very sorry to read your posting. I would take Jordan to A&E if you get no joy elsewhere. He needs to be seen now. It will not be doing your health and spirits any good either to be under such huge distress of seeing your child suffering. I think that is what I would do, if I got no help offered elsewhere before the end of April. Defies belief!

Sorry to hear this Jenny. I would give the GP nd rheumatolagy once last try, then follow the good advice already given - ending up at A & E if necessary, that is usually a fast track to getting something done. Make sure you mention the fact that the rheumy appointment is for another months time and the GP could not offer any further help.

    Hi
This is terrible - poor Jordan and poor you - us mums hate being powerless don't we.

A month is too long to wait. That is ridiculous. How long does it take to give a steriod shot? Can only a specialist give it?

I would push every avenue - GP, ring rhuemy nurse and consulant's secretary.

Why should the poor thing have the Easter break ruined, by being in pain.
If all else fails and Jordan continues in such awful pain you could consider presenting him at A&E....he would have to be seen then. I know it's a bit radical but maybe that's what's necessary
    .

I wholeheartedly agree with this advice. My Dad did this with me once when I was in my early teens - I needed my stitches taking out - and for one reason or another - no one was prepared to do it!! He set me up in A&E waiting room with mags, chocolate and a drink and left me to it. I was soon dealt with. Dad was only in the cafe and we were soon home again!!!

Keep advocating it is all you can do.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

hi thanks guys i have left a message with the rhummy nurse but it was her that made the appointment for jordan to come in and have his injection, they like to do it under sedation and with an xray i agree that i cannot wait until end of april so yes if i get nowhere after speaking to the nurse i will take him to a&e. we are just in the middle of putting in a down stairs shower which is a walk in one so this will be of great benefit i am sure. We only have a childrens clinic once every 6 weeks but if he has to be seen earlier then its in the adults clinic. I have also made an appointment with his school teacher so i can fill her in with the problems jordan is having he is taking a cushion with him tomorrow so hopefully it will help but thanks for all your support it is so nice knowing that there are people out there knowing what i am going though thankyou jenny and jordan.

    Hi Jordans mum

Oh I really feel for both of you. It sounds orrible. I can really identify with you, hating to see your little on ein such pain. Seeing your child in pain is awlful as we would just like to hug them and take it all away, but we cant.

I would try and get your GP to call the consultant when you are there as you really need something. My GP was fantastic and called my consultant (actually paiged her) to explain that I was in so much pain and needed something and they prescribed me a better anti inflammatory. Worth a try and if not then I would complain a little as pain is awful to bere (sorry spelling).

I really felt for him when you said about Thorpe Park and missing out, how horrible is this, pain is so horrible. Not just for him but for you seeing it 2.
I really hope someone listens to you and maybe the A and E would be a good place if it gets that bad.

Take care and hopw to chat very soon.

    Love to Jordan.

    Love Claire

Hi Jordans mum. We are planning to go to Thorpe Park too! There is a lot of walking unfortunately.

Glad about the shower. It will really help him. I was lucky as we were building an extension when I had a massive flare so put in a double shower.I have not used a bath since because of the difficulty and pain getting in and out.Get a shower tray that is not slippy.Mine is textured so I never feel unsafe and have a grab rail on the wall and a shelf for all my smellies as cant bend down and pick things up.

Hope the oral steriods kick in soon. At least with the rubbish weather it is an excuse to do indoor activities, which are less physically demanding until the meds start to work. Hopefully the weather and Jordan will improve at the same time!!

    hi

i hope the school hols bring some relief for you all, not having to get up and be somewhere on a morning.
as for hips i coudn't sit on a school chair for maybe more then 10 mins without wanting to get up and move, hope the pillow helped.
also when the pain is very bad i shove a hot wheat bag between my groin and that does help.
i have found the hip pain the worse of any joints and my normal pain relief doesn't touch it and i've had to go back for more stronger drugs.
i agree if pain is bad go to a and e.

    good luck
