    Hi Berty,

Dropping you in a ((( ))) and hope the ortho team will realise and be more helpful to you. I imagine initially they will use injected meds? I know they did for my back and feet. There are often liquid types as well as tablets and some you can tip out and mix into yogurt's and stuff so (easy for me to say) try not to worry too much cus the op is really what you need. Another ((( ))) and I am sure it will go well for you ad bring you vast relief. Luv Cris xx

    Dear Berty boy,

I'm sorry to hear that this is a worry for you. Having made the big decision about an operation is one worry less - because the decision is made. However, yes, the downside is that the operation will be getting closer. I know that other forum members understand that kind of territory too. I'm sure that everyone wishes you well and will want to give you their support.

    all the best

    Hi

Just calling by to wish you Good Luck for your op. Make sure when you go in to tell them this and I think they will want to know before your surgery, or it should be in your notes.

Sorry to see you worrying over the meds issue. Am sure it will be in your notes and that you will remind them at your pre op so they can try and reassure you. Just wanted to send hugs and add my best wishes for everything. (((( )))) Hope the time soon goes, I guess the waiting is hard now it is so close and also hope that you make a quick recovery and are soon home again. Will be thinking of you.

    Hi Bertyboy

I'm not surprised you are in panic mode after what you went through last time. I have several questions going through my head and perhaps you have already been through these questions with the doctor but I thought I'd flag them anyway.

Is the med you had before crucial to post op recovery?
Have you have an allergy test re the med you have in mind that may have given you an anaphalactic shock?
If there is any possibility of them using it again or is there a note in your medical notes to say you are allergic?

If you are not happy for them to use that particular drug whether you have had an allergy test or not you can state it during your pre op appointment. Also discuss it with the anaesthetist. That is the person who will take notice as they will be in charge of meds administration during the op. you must also make your consultant aware of it if it is not noted on an allergy chart. Ask them to write it on the notes if it is not there already.

Wishing you the very best for your surgery and recovery

    Hi bertyboy

it's understandable you're worried about the meds...I can fully sympathise as I had an anaphylactic shock during an op I had 26yrs ago (it was a 'new' antibiotic that caused it)... it is a scary experience and does leave you almost paranoid about future ops.

However I have had several ops since then with absolutely no problems.
The hospital put a large note in red on the front of my file detailing the allergy and I have since always reminded each and everyone attending me in hospital about this problem. It is important too to say to any other hospital you might be referred to (quite often you get referred to other hospitals for a specialist/ different ops as I have found) They too will mark it up on the front of the file and will send for information from the hospital where the reaction took place.

I know you haven't had a sympathetic response from your consultant (which is awful) but may be if you speak to your doc he/ she could contact the hospital on your behalf to get more information? (sorry if that's already been done and I'm just repeating history) You have a right to be listened to!

The most important person to discuss this with over and above the consultant and doc (I think) is the anaesthetist as they are the ones in charge of your meds during and immediately after the op and are very skilled at what they do. You will also get the opportunity at your pre op to talk this worry through and can ask any questions you have.

I hope that you do get some reassurances bertyboy. Keep strong.

    Hello

If you have a particular drug in mind that you feel may have caused the trauma last time and you do not wish to take this medication, as has been said, discuss this with the anaesthetist or someone of importance to do with your operation before you sign the consent form, unless you already have done so. You can be issued with a band around your wrist indicating that you are not to be given the named drug. The medics know what the band means and will look at what is written on it if unsure before administering drugs.

    I wish you well,

    Luv
