Just thought I would say hello and introduce myself.
I am a 33 year old male who has a chronically acheing right wrist and thumb knuckle joint which clicks more than my computer mouse!
My thumb joint is unstable and feels 'squishy'. I have been getting aches in it for about four years but the in the last year it has got much worse. I have had physio which didn't do anything, X-ray didn't show anything abnormal and two weeks ago I had a wrist arthroscopy. Apparently the ligament is unstable whatever that means. All my hand joints click badly. Waiting to see the specialist in four weeks to discuss what he found.
I am finding it difficult to face up to being in pain all the time, It is just so relentless and the thoughts that go with it make it worse. I am only 33 and might have to put up with this bo**ocks for ages!I have even fantasized about cutting my hand off many times!
I have always been incredibly active and love swimming , the gym , cycling as well as doing a manual job and although I am lucky to still be able to be active this problem has reduced my enjoyment of these activities dramatically. I am even beginning to wonder if I will be able to do manual work again.
I understand that some of you are much much worse off having read some of the posts, so I want to try and be pro-active as possible.
Thanks.

Hello Righthandman (like the user name) and welcome!

Sorry you are having such pain – but you are in good company here and you’ll get lots of support. You’ve obviously looked around the forum a bit, so you’ve probably sussed that the “Living with Arthritis” (LWA) forum is the best place to post general questions. Also I can see from your message that you have a good sense of humour (essential) and, if I you look into the “chit-chat” forum you will find that we do a good line in wit and fun, which helps us through the difficult days.

I know that it is really hard to get your hand round being in constant pain – specially when you don’t really know what’s behind it. So hopefully the specialist will be able to shed some light on what’s going on and what can be done to improve things for you. Meantime, hopefully you have got some good strong painkillers from your GP – and please don’t cut your hand off – tempting though it might be!!!
Look forward to seeing you posting Righthandman – and please do keep us posted on progress.
    Love Tilly x

Hello Righthandman ..Welcome Four years in constant pain is awfull and it sounds like its taken away a lot of the things you enjoy doing But now you have finally got some answers and you only have four weeks before you see a topman to talk it all through and hopefully be able to treat you Dont give in to despondancy now Stick with the forum the weeks will soon pass ..No Dramatic action please Hey some of us need cheering up to Nice to have someone new as well Goodluck and take it easyLBabycham :):)
Thanks for all your positive support.
You all seem a damn nice bunch.
Gave in finally today and started taking painkillers, Diclofenac and co codamol. They definitely hit the spot but I feel rather dopey on them which is another new experience to get used to.
Managed to knumb the pain enough for me to fix my car which was nice. Took a whole day to fix it because I felt so damn dopey but I probably wouldn't have done it without being on them.
    Appreciate the support.

Hello righthandman, good name! It's nice to welcome another fella, we don't have enough of the male species on here to give a good balance. Please post on other forums too: LWA give tips and hints on how to cope with things and it's a good place to vent one's rage at the outrageous fate that has befallen one. CC is fun, manyn threads on differing topics, both silly and serious and the working matters forum discusses all things to do with employment. We are a wide-ranging group here - plunge in! Dreamdaisy
