hello

On monday i braved another trip to the doctor's by that i mean last time i was treated very badly and told more or less to go away and get on with it, i was not happy  :x anyway i went to see a good doctor and she answered my questions and now i know what i dealing with, she said they will not consider tkr until i am at least in my 60's because i am only young yet and would wear out a few knees before i die as my family live well into there 80's so i asked when should i come and see you about this again, and when it gets to a point you can no longer sleep of a night, and the painkillers dont work no more, so now i know.

i try to always see the funny side of things and monday was no different i kept out of the way and noticed that horrible doctor i had seen the week before, eating a apple and i hope this dont sound terrible but i was wishing all the bad luck on him and athur as well, even arthur stayed well away from him,:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hi only 49. I know how you feel. I had the same situation in my last GP's practice. One really horrible doc and one who didnt care about anything and a really good one who allways seemed to help and was very nice to me. Then suddenly the nice doc was a bit sharp and was not nice at all. Told me to go home and not worry about anything after receiving the letter from the rheumatologist, would not tell me what the letter stated. Then low and behold the nice doc who is now as bad as the other two has his name on the letterhead as a partner. The partnership has had a severe impact on his "bedside manner". I wonder why? Changed my GP to another practice.
    Regards

    Hi Sylvia,

Glad you saw a decent one and she explained it to you as well. They do do replacement as lot younger than 60.... my brothers was first done at 21 and there are people here who had to have them done earlier than that so you could have it done if you needed to its just you have to push the quality of life issues.

I hope with a bit of decent pain relief and maybe a bit of physio you will get a lot longer before you need a replacement. Sending some hopes Cris

    Hi Trisha,

My old practice was like that... I think its cus they then run as a business and patients are not allowed to cost them money... My old ones really were bad and even told me I they had wasted enough money on me..... The new ones are much nicer.... so far.... Cris x

    Hi Sylvia,

My old practice was all about money..... It worth having changing practices in the back of your mind if you feel they are not treating you right. Have they referred you to an ortho can I ask? Cris

    Hi Sylvia,

Think your entitled to ask and they have to refer you? Mind my old shower wouldn't me... said I wasn't worth it.... It wasn't the bones, for them there really is nothing ,much they can do so I see the pain clinic every 8-10 weeks.

Is there another practice there you could change to or would you have to go to the main land? Cris

    Hi Sylvia,

Sadly that's how a lot of doctors are now a days... sure its down to money.... Next time you see yours ask them outright to refer you to an ortho for an opinion.... I think its your right to ask? it did used to be but if they say no.... then maybe think about changing or finding out how you can get them to refer you.... Cris

Tis all about money I am sure Sylvia but next time just ask and see what they say. if they say no... I am sure you can demand a consultants opinion.... I am not certain though. Someone else might know or the helplines will know I think? Cris

    Hi Sylvia :D

I really think you should insist on being referred to ortho. your docs are living in the dark ages and it is unacceptable to be left in pain just because you might live long enough to need more than one THR!

in any case your doc is not a specialist so shouldn't be gate-keeping in this way. there are other procedures to be considered.... resurfacing for example that if you're found suitable could relieve your pain.

don't accept this Sylvia...go back and tell them you want referred. you might find ortho are much more sympathetic. surgery (according to my ortho) is a treatment option not a ' last resort' and replacement used to relieve the pain of arther in joints and improve quality of life. much more humanitarian approach and not unique .

good luck Sylvia...let us know what happens.

That is sound advice from dorcas, only49. Give it some serious thought, tho I do realise that geography may be against you. DD
