Well the 2nd THR has been cancelled or delayed.
I had a call at 5.30p from the ortho who said he had got an e.mail from his secretary saying i would like to talk to him. He asked if I had got the message from her and what it was. Told him and he said well its a bit more than that ...you hve scoliosis and that is pressing on a few discs/nerves inyou spine and that is what is causing your backache.
Which is the sorest...your back or hips?
I said it was hard to tell....to which he said that was understandable.
He then said OK....which hip is the sorest...the unoperated one? I said no....one was as bad as the other....to which he said right its coming from your back...your hip op can wait if you want to be referred to see a back specialist.
So thats it for the moment...he's cancelling it tomorrow and getting in touch with a back specialist. I have an appointment with him at a different hospital on Sat morning....he said you dont need to come now...I said i would like to keep the appt and he said OK....I think he is visualising me coming with my list of questions :lol::lol::lol:
I'm not committed to anything ecept seeing the back specialist when I do get an appointment....we'll see what he has to say and then think about it again.
So all advice about things to ease sore backs meantime will be gratefully received

Love
Hileena

    Hi Hileena,

Maybe in the circumstances its best t is put on hold or a bit. See what he has got to say on Saturday and also what he proposes for the back. I really hope there is some good things from your appointment.

I shall be in your pocket with pricked ears and please make sure your list includes what can be done for the spine thing. I am sorry everything has gone in the air for now but with luck they can get you sorted and ready for the thr later. ((( ))) Cris xx

Hi Thanks for the replys...I'll get as many questions answered as I can but I doubt if he'll be able t answer much about the back ...he's referring me to a different hospital for that and then back to him to have the hip done eventually.
I wonder if its worth asking him for referral to physio or OT as a temp measure while I'm waiting for an appt at the other hospital....that could take ages...I might get some advice and help from them

Thanks for the pocket duty.

    Hi Hileena,

my advice for what its worth is wait and see what they are proposing.... you need to see someone who understands the mri re your back and he sounds like he is sending you to see someone who does.

Just sit on it till you see the next guy and he will be better placed to advise you. Its all a bit of shock for you i know but they will e bale to advise you from the mri. Mine they sent me for the de-nerve thing and well I thought it was a bit drastic but went anyway and you know it really does help so just try not to worry, see what he say on Saturday and then see what the guy in the know says .... have big pockets cus I know a lot of us will be there. ((())) and a hope its soon sorted. Cris xx

    Hi Hileena

    Oh = that's a bit of a surprise..

Cris has given you some good advice I think.

At least you are being seen by the back specialist very soon - so you will know what you are 'up against.'

    Take care

    Hi Hileena,

Here, and I know there are different variations in other areas, an internal referral that also comes from someone involved in your other treatments means you are seen quicker so hopefully you wont have to wait long. I was misdiagnosed originally and it caused a lot more trouble with physio so for me I am less pro that than maybe i should be.... see what he says on Saturday, see what s wrong and we will then all put our heads together and help you as much as we can. Glad you got big pockets cus i don't want to spend the morning in the smelly cheese one :lol: ((( ))) and fingers crossed. Cris xx

Oh Hileena, just when you think you know where you heading .... However, sounds like consultant has your best interests at heart. If the main source of your pain is your back - then you need that sorting first. If it is scoliocis (sp?) then you do want to find out the treatment for that first as it is progressive and needs treating to prevent it getting worse/slow it down. I hope your appointment comes through soon - is your referral urgent?

    Glad Cris is advising you.

    An appointment on a Saturday?!

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Morning All
I would have thought I would have had a good nights sleep now things are more or less decided but No :o Never mind thats a mere detail.
Yes you are right Chris....hang on until Sat and see what he says.
Speedy...on the phone he said scoliosis but in the letter to my GP he said kyphoscoliosis......as far as I remember the difference is...sc. is curvature of the spine sideways and ky. sc. is both sideways and forward...Could be wrong...I'll check that on Sat out of curiosity
Its a weird day for a surgeon to have a clinic isnt it...I think I said before my first THR my appointment was 5.30pm at his clinic????
Dont you like smelly cheese Chris???????

    Morning Hileena
I`m pleased that your surgeon got in touch. At least you know what is happeneing re your THR and you are not wondering whether you should be getting organised for the op.
The scoliosis diagnosis explains why your new hip is still painful. Hopefully once you have seen the back specialist you will have the answers you need. Not sure if you will get much more information about the scoliosis from your hip surgeon, but I can be on pocket duty if needed.
Have a restful day to make up for a poor nights sleep.
    Take care x

Im sorry that your op got cancelled. I remember you saying this may or may not happen but you wanted to go ahead with the THR....I guess in one way he is being thorough and thats good but it means you got something else to combat now and have to wait for new hip.....
I will be there with pocket duty for saturday morning, me n Sol.....Youve been lovely to me on here and can only send feeble best wishes for then...
Keep spirits up, if not come on here and we will lend shoulder....

Ooooh, missed this due to being pred-less: now propped up on 20mgs and ready for nearly anything! (or maybe not). Oh, what a muddle for you and how frustrating. I think the right course of action may be being taken: if your back is crook how can you cope with the physical demands of post hip-op recuperation? (And I think they are some demands, initially.) Good luck for Saturday, fill the main tank of your Micra, and the reserve too if you can find it (in case of emergencies), pack us all in and we will keep very quiet so you can concentrate a) on driving and b) on what The Man has to say. I think this is the right way round for you, hileena, and I wish you well. DD

    Oh Hileena
Just when you thought you knew where you were going next, its hard to tell where the pain comes from sometimes when you have back and hip pain, see what he says to you and take it from there, there's nothing else you can do really, I know that they put on special clinics when they have a backlog so thats propably why they have one on saturday.

    Hi Elaine
    Thanks for all that.
Probably before long you'll all find me on firing questions about back tratment the way I did about my first THR
I'm more settled now believe it or not ...now that I know its not going ahead. It was the....will it wont it....and getting closer all the time that had me really worried.
I'll start all over again...see what he has to say on Sat and he migh be able to give me a rough idea how long it will take to get an appt with back man. He sent it off on Tuesday....I would think it would be quicker having a referral from consultant to consultant rather than GP to consultant.
I've been out tonight and did bits and pieces during the day and am a bit achey but fine really. One Avon book to collect tomorrow morning and 1 book and 2 orders to deliver to my knitting group in the evening and thats about all I'll do......Maybe coffee at our parish hall with a friend in the morning.

    Hi hileena,

I'm glad you got some answers at least from the consultant.... but sorry you're op has had to be postponed. :( although in some ways it is best.... as your back would have been under a lot more pressure with a second THR.

Good for you insisting the orthos see you on Saturday... you'll be able to get a lot more answers and info about the MRI results when you see him face to face.

I hope you don't have to wait too long before seeing the back specialist. just sorry you're having to go through all of this.

love and (((hugs))) and oodles of good luck for Saturday.

I'm feeling much better {apart from a thumping headache and i can't blame arthur for that...can I :?: } A lot happier. There is always the chance that the back treatment could relieve pain in hip as well...I know from looking at x rays that it will need doing but for the minute....Just thinking about Sat and what is going to be said and asked...me and my lists  but not at all concerned about it. Might be different after the appt but we'll see.....meeting my daughter for coffee afterwards....shes the sensible one...roles are reversed now  I told her on the phone about the scoliosis and the reply I got was well...you're twisted and warped...we always knew that mam  If she hadnt been on the other end of the phone she would hav got a clout on the lug....29 isnt too old for that

Good luck for today, hileena, I will be thinking of you and I hope matters can be resolved. If you can, please let us know how you get on. And no, no ride last night, something went wrong: I had some sleep! Three hours all in one go at one point. I think Mr DD and a mallet might have been involved! DD
