I may go on but please bear with me.
I have had a mobility disability since I was 11, not arther, which has always given me pain, they have been treating it on and off over the last 20 years. Aprox 5 years ago they also found arther, which they have left untreated ad the other illness made it imposable to do so....or so I was told.
I recently found that my first illness is significantly improved, yet I am still on morphine because of the pain.
My main question is could arther (giving me the knee joint of an 80 year old at 30) be causing so much pain that I need morphine or is my brain creating pain that is no longer there from my other illness??
I know you may not be able to answer this but I just feel confused!! Can untreated arther cause this much pain. Please consider I have never let the pain stop me and have a full life, I use crutches to walk, but I get on with life.
COULD THE ARTHER BE THE CAUSE OF THIS PAIN!!
Sorry if I am going on. I have a child with arther so know it is painfull but have always been lead to believe that the arther should not be this bad!
PLEASE HELP AND OFFER ADVICE

    Dear lucysmum

    Thank you for your posting.

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having with the pain in your knee.

Arthritis could be the cause of the pain in your knee, or it may be something else. Pain can be caused by a mixture of physical and psychological symptoms and varies for each individual.

An x-ray or MRI scan would pick up any damage in the joint. If you haven’t had either of these recently it may be worth going to your doctor and asking for one to be done. You can also ask for a referral to a pain clinic (via your doctor), as they may be able to find something that works better than your current medication.

We have a booklet called ‘Coping with pain’ at http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Booklets and ‘Osteoarthritis of the knee’ at http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis_information/arthritis_types_and_symptoms/osteoarthritis_of_the_knee.aspx.

Please ring our helplines on 08708 800 4050, if you would like to have a chat about your condition.

    Regards

Thank you. The last time i was x-rayed my joint was deteriated to that of a 80 year old, this was almost 4 years ago. I have been refered to the pain clinic because of my other illness but as it now seems that this first illness may not be causing as much as they first thought, so I am hoping that this will help and that maybe now I may get some treatment for my arther!!!
I would like to thank you all for your support.
