Hi,
I'm Claire and i'm new to the forum. I'm 40 years old (just) and i was diagnosed with severe OA in both my knees 3 years ago.

Im looking forward to chatting to you all and hopefully will make some new friends, as it can be an isolated world in the land of arthritis (as im sure many will agree)

Look forward to chatting.. once i find my way around the forums

Hi Claire, welcome to this wonderfull Forum  I am 60, 2 children,3 grandchildren,2 dogs, and up to 40 nursery tots(I work in child care).I love it and have just gone back to work after 18mnths off sick with double hip replacements with terrible complications.I have OA,in every joint that you can name, some are worse than others, but hey ho it's what we now have to deal with. Some days are worse than others.I do lots of physio, helps enormously, but can't walk very far, which is a bitch as I miss walking my dogs as I used too.I am scatty, also a bit dim on lots of stuff, have bad temper, which I put down to pure frustration. The people on this forum have helped me so much to learn how to come to terms with this awfull condition, helped me calm down, answered my stupid questions. They are the best people I know.Enjoy the ride  Mirabella

    Hi everyone

Just registered and glad to meet you all even though its online, been diagnosed with OA in both knees and struggling to get off chairs and climb stairs, I am 57 got 2 daughters and 2 wonderful granchildren.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on anything that would ease the pain, I can cope normally but it's getting embarressing while I am at work and I ca't get off a chair with ease.

    Needing help.

Hello Doreen, it's nice to meet you but I am sorry to hear you are struggling. We cannot tell you about pain relief (although most of us are on it!) the person you need to see is your GP. Tell him what the pain is like, what makes it worse and how it is affecting your life, he should be able to determine the level of pain relief you need - and I hope it helps you. I wish you well. DD

    Hi DD
Sorry I never gave you the full story, I have had Xrays MRI scans and seen a specialist and the only thing he said was for me to loose weight and then come back in 4 months, if there is no change to the suffering then he will talk about knee replacements but only the knee caps will need replacing he said. Yes I have put on about 4 stone over the past couple of years due to ill health however, I am focussed now and going to the gym 3 times a week to try and loose weight. Thanks for your message DD.

I find it very difficult to lose weight as I am now permanently on crutches (I have a different form of this pestilence to you) so moving with any degree of speed is a long-lost art. As I said, if it is pain relief that you need then it has to be the doc: we can tell you all about the different options but we don't know your medical history, don't know what you can 'handle' as it were drugs-wise and don't know your whole situation so we cannot tell you what to take. If it is getting harder to manage the pain then yes, you need to see him and ask his advice. Pain killer is a mis-nomer - they only ever take off the edge but that can be the difference between managing or not managing. DD

Hi Doreen, welcome from me too..
Blimey, fair enough if they want you to lose some weight and good on you for making the effort but has nobody discussed pain relief with you at all

I agree (as usual as she is my wise and learned pal) with DD, you need to see your GP if you are struggling so much...

    Best wishes
