These consultants love their long titles!!!

Arthralgia is joint pain rather than arthritis. So basically he is saying you have joint pain from inflammatory arthritis. You are sero negative, so it is unlikely to be rheumatoid arthritis. The enthesis is where the ligaments and tendons attach to the bone, for example at the back of the heel. In certain spondyloarthropathies such as psoriatic arthritis, you can get tendonitis in the heels etc.

Hope this helps until someone more expert comes along!!

    Hi Debbie,
Suzygirl has answered your question so adeptly there isn't very much we can add. Soft tissue rheumatism refers to pain or inflammation in the tendons, bursae and ligaments
and is quite common in conditions like fibromyalgia.

Rheumatologists often become fluent in a language I call Jointspeak. It's not spoken by us lay people, but it doesn't mean we should be afraid to ask them to translate for us. Most of them will talk in plain English if pushed.

    Best wishes

Hi suzi girl and Paul ,
Thanks for your replies i have been back to the consultand he now says it is in conjuction with fibromialgia however when he has writen it in the letter he has put ?fibromialia so i guess he is thinking about it. He has changed the medication though and i will see how it goes he still says if i get realy bad flare ups then to go to A&E so they canuse an injection to controle the pain does this sound right as i feel like the treatment is to manage the pain and not treat the condition?

Hi, it's nice to meet you. I suspect you are talking about an injection of steroids, that will ease any inflammation and hopefully help the pain but it is not a long-term treatment. If you have any questions about those, or any other meds, then please post on the LWA forum (living with arthritis) as many of us are veterans of it all and you will, I am sure, receive more answers there. I wish you well. DD

    Dear Debbie

It sounds as if you have doubts over the treatment that you are receiving at the moment. As you have not said which meds you are now on it is difficult to know if the condition is being treated as well as the pain. If you click on the link http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/Files/2013-Fibromyalgia.pdf this will provide you with information about fibromyalgia and the way it is treated and managed. If you are concerned about the consultant’s advice then contact the rheumatology department, you should be able to speak to the nurse specialist at the rheumatology department. It sounds as if there is a lot more background than you have put in your posting and I would like to encourage you to give us a call here on the Helplines so that you can talk these concerns through with one of our helpline team. I hope this is helpful.

    Best Wishes

    Hi All
Thank you for your replies, i am now getting used to this site and am finding it very usefull with all your tips and very understanding and posative feedback. However i have just had a phone call to tell me that my rhumatoid factor is high they must have the blood test results back, fourtunatly the exray results are fine, so that leads me to excuse my ignorance but i need to make an appointment with my Dr about this what are the questions to ask as i dont know what is rhumatoid factor and what does it do if they are high then will it make my condition worse or is that part of the condition. Excuse me if i am being a bit dim but i am taking tramadoll when the pain is very severe and loosing the day as this makes me sick and makes me sleep more than usual, however sleep seems to be one of the things icould still be asleep at dinner time if i allowed myself. i take Naproxen for the inflamation and amitriptaline which is supposed to relax the muscles, however i find this also makes me sleepy and feel like i am in a daze, but a different daze to the brane fogg. Sorry to go on i feel like a hypocondriac and am sick of 'moaning' but not in a nagging sort of way, all i want to do is just get on. I used to have a very bus life i am only just 50 and would like to run around with my two grandchildren but my condition slows me down. I used to work full time and go to college once a week on a night do courese work and go to the jim, 4 years ago i ran the race for life and in the past 2 years i feel my condition has put my life on hold.
Thanks again any light on the subject would be appreciated.

Hi Debbie, I am so sorry that you are feeling so muddled but this is a muddly business! RF (rheumatoid factor) is an indication that RA is part of what is going on with you, it is part of the condition and will help with diagnosis. Please post again on LWA, more people are about on that part of the forum and will be able to chat to you. Perhaps you would consider ringing the helpline too - the number is at the top of every page. There are some wonderful people on the end of the line who will listen and help in any way they can. Take care. DD

No no! It's part of here! You know the board where all the forums are listed? Instead of clicking on Chat to our Helpline Team click on Living with Arthritis, it's a few titles above that one. You'll find us all there, I promise, those with RA, PA, OA, AS, and those of us who don't know quite what we have. DD
