Just need to let off a bit of stress

Eithne's been telling us over the past couple of weeks that she's having pain in her hips, her knees, her feet, etc etc. There's no swelling but sometimes she's limping or is stiff in the morning. She was hurting yesterday after going to soft play so I got in touch with the specialist nurse. She rang me back this morning straight away and said it does sound like the arthritis is progressing, and because of Eithne's issues with going to the hospital now (she thinks every appointment is for needles) she has put her on continual ibuprofen - 7.5 ml 3 times a day - until we see the consultant. If it gets worse, then we are to get back in touch and she'll see us.

So I threw some clothes on (had just finished breakfast) and drove some meds to nursery and gave them the instructions. They agreed to give it to her and I tried to leave before she saw me, but she did see me, but was okay with it. Then around 9:30 I get a phone call from nursery - they are concerned about the dosage of ibuprofen and won't give it to her until they have a letter from the nurse so I have to drive into nursery, see my daughter, give her 7.5ml, then leave her there - I just hope she doesn't flip out!

I don't get why they are having an issue. Eithne is 4 and the leaflet from the box says from 4 to 7 years old they can have 7.5ml 3 times a day. I've checked it on another bottle and verified it with the pharmacy!

I'm hoping the nurse gets a letter emailed to me asap because I can't keep having to go into nursery to give her the one dose we need them to give her.

I do understand their concerns as maybe they've never had a child of Eithne's age on that dose, but all the leaflets in my house tell me it's okay, the pharmacist says it's okay, and it's the dose the specialist nurse told me to give her!

It's just one more stress that I don't need.

I'm worried enough about what's going on with her and not knowing what to do that I don't need this on top.

oh no hugs. Kayleigh was on 6.25mls at that age of ibuprofen 4 times a day. I have it on repeat prescription from my gp's. I went in and told them what the hossie had said and they double checked and put it on repeat for me as schools (in this area) cannot give medicines unless prescribed. Perhaps this is another option for you plus then you don't have to pay for it hehe

Sending you lots of big hugs though. xxx

    Thanks Michelle!

Already on repeat. Got it on repeat when we were going away over Easter so dropped a prescription off this morning to pick up on Thursday. I got the letter from the specialist nurse and will give that to nursery in the morning. They are being quite good at it, but they wanted to have it checked that the dosage was right and stuff.

When I went in to give Eithne her meds at 1:30 she was okay about it, just gave me lots of kisses before I could go, and I spent some time speaking to the head of the integrated unit and the deputy head of the centre and they have offered to help us in anyway they can - not just with Eithne but with myself or my husband personally. They've also asked for us to get the hospital to write to them to give them more information on JIA and what they can do to help etc etc. The deputy head also suggested getting in touch with their SENCO - who just happens to be Eithne's nursery teacher, so we're going to speak to her as well.

I'm hoping this keeps things at bay and we don't have to go back to the hospital earlier than the 25th.
