I have ankoloing spondylitis and am waiting to see a specialist, I am a single parent and work full time as a registered nurse. I am bit scared as to what the future holds especially as my job envolves manual handleing and long hours. I am 37 and for last 9 months have been woken up several times a night in severe pain, broken sleep and the pain is taking its toll, I am worried about the speed and severity of the disease progression and what it may mean for me and my family/job. Any advice or info will be gladly received as until now id never heard of AS.

Welcome to the forum, NurseClaire. As Del says, please copy and paste your thread onto the LWA forum. This zone is more of an introductory one and not so many of us look in on here as the other zones.

Have you looked at http://www.nass.co.uk/ a charity which is specifically working for people with ankylosing spondylitis, their families and their medical teams. I notice they have a helpline and forum.

Another member has just joined us and posted a similar thread asking the same/similar questions as you. Hope to see you posting on the other zone.

    Take care
