Enbrel / TB

Hi there,

I've just been assessed for Humira treatment and have found out that I'm positive for latent TB. My nurse has told me Humira is off the menu but Enbrel is less likely to ignite the TB

Before beginning treatment I have to see a chest specialist to assess whether I have to take a long course of anti-biotics to kill off the TB

My question is : does this kind of thing happen alot & if so, is it usually the case that once people have been on the anti-biotics for a while that they successfully start anti-TNF treatment afterwards?

Many thanks,

K.

    Hello Keith

Sorry to hear about the latent TB.

I don't know for certain but, like Del, I think I have read somewhere that latent TB doesn't, in itself, preclude the use of anti-tnfs, so long as it is treated with antibiotics beforehand. I think I saw a thread about this on LWA a little while ago, so if you do a search, you might be able to find it.

Hope you get some answers soon.

    Dear Keith,

Thanks for your post. I've asked our Information Manager to look at this - it goes a bit beyond the scope of what we can give an instant answer on. The rheumatology nurse is really the person best equipped to go into this area. We'll hope to come back to you later today.

    all the best

    Dear Keith,

I've got some further information about TB and anti TNF treatments. I'm sorry for the delay with this, but our information department are very short staffed.

I hope the information is helpful
