Morning all
Just been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in big toe and mild in other toe and to add to it got gout in the severe toe. being refered to specilists any idea what happens now?This is very painfull any advice?
Hacksaw sounds good!

    I have OA in lumbar spine, have thought about chopping my leg off before when hip was so back with it, lol. All they can do is physio, meds possible surgery. Its a nasty thing is arthur.

    Wendy thanks for reply not looking forward to this oa(arthur)? so will keep hacksaw in botton draw.

    Hi Mickyboy,

    Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, arthur in the big toe is bloomin painful and when you mix in a bit of gout for good measure - yikes! The good news is that the gout part is very treatable as there are drugs which help to prevent further attacks by lowering urate levels.
    It's impossible to say for certain what happens next, but the specialist might start by suggesting a steroid injection into the toe joint. These don't work for everyone but when they do they're very effective in reducing pain. If that doesn't work out, they may want to discuss fusion of the big toe. This surgery has a good success rate and they always use top quality kit so your hacksaw can probably stay hidden in your bottom drawer a little while longer.

    Paul thanks for your reply not looking forward to the toe injection or the surgery but that saw`s 20 years old and blunt so can`t be to choosy!
