Good morning!
I just stumbled over this site because I sit in front of he screen instead of doing my proper work. But doing my proper work seems to be out of the question at the moment because the bloody thing strikes again.
I have Spondylarthritis and with my little HLA B27 I'm never really alone. It was not my intention to join a forum but I just did to share a little bit of my experiences with you. I'm sorry if some of this has already been discussed or posted, but anyway.....
The problems related to the SA began when I was 18 years old. Unfortunately my then "specialist" diagnosed a hip- displacement. He told me that a hip- replacement will be required later in life. I thought the time has come to do exactly that 3 years ago. I couldn't sleep anymore and driving became nearly imposssible. I think I'm rather pain- resistent, but at that stage it became absolutely unbearable. To cut a long story short: after a scan and a couple of other tests, blood test included, the diagnosis was changed to SA, sero positive. I can't be treated with anti-inflammatories and the so called "bio-therapy", because of some medication I have to take for another, more serious disease. I was bound to look into alternatives to keep the symptoms more or less at bay. I tried acupunture, and to be frank: Yes! It makes definitely a difference! I guess it depends on the competence of the doctor who works the needles. I was lucky enough to come over a really competent one. She advised me to give up dairy as a test. Apparently inflammations and dairy are not the best combination. I've always been a vegetarian, so I simply turned vegan. That was three years ago, and again: yes. Definitely a difference.
Unfortunately I had to give up acupuncture a while ago. It is simply too far away to go there at the moment.
Of course- whatever we take or avoid to take to beat the symptoms, the disease will not go away. And right now it makes itself very noticeable. Not really the moment, since I'm farming and my season is on. And I'm working and living alone. That makes it very complicated, indeed.
I'm in the lucky position to live in a usually warm and dry climate. I can imagine that having SA in the UK is even more difficult, since humidity seems to be a real thread for any kind of arthritis.
This became rather long, but I simply wanted to give you the advice to try a needle- doctor and have a look at your daily diet. Avoid dairy consequently for, let's say, 6 months. I could imagine that some of you will notice a significant difference.
Have a nice day!

Hello, it's nice to meet you and I hope you find the forum a useful source of information and support. Many of us on here (we have all sorts of varieties of auto-immune arthritis) have tried all sorts of things for various lengths of time and the general consensus is that what works for one won't necessarily work for another; if you are helped by acupuncture and being vegan then that is a good thing. We had a long, hot summer and my psoriatic arthritis was hell, now we're back to cooler and damp and my osteo has once again come to the fore. Sometimes one just can't win. :)

I wish you well and I hope you are able to return to the acupuncture, the benefit may outweigh the effort required to attend the sessions, yes? DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Thank you for your welcomes! Yes, I know everybody finds his own little tricks to feel slightly better. I just wanted to share my meagre experiences.
Oh- I will drop in rather infrequent since I have no internet at my place. But I have to get used to the lay-out of this site. It's a bit confusing right now.

    Thank you again!
