I have had notification from my Mum's local auction house that various lots (13 in total) will be presented tomorrow. It's a real rag-bag of stuff, ranging from watches to glassware, scarves to furniture. Mum's house will soon be on the market, his mum's is sold, we're getting there. DD

I hope it all goes well tomorrow. I presume you won't be going along?

No I shan't, tkachev it is too far away and I don't think I would like it - I'd probably end up buying it all back! DD

Wassock! Why do I find that so easy to believe? Stay away. You have your memories. They will suffice :)

I don't blame you not going. it will be difficult to see others bidding over items that belong to your parents. Best have a quiet day at home.

Thank you all again for all your kindness. I've been sitting and wondering and I would like to know if any of you have any advice about auction etiquette? Is it permissable for me to ring the auctioneers to ask what happened and whether I am now able to afford a Maserati? DD

There's no harm in asking DD, they can only say no. Will the proceeds go to the solicitor to deal with? If so you might have to ask him instead.
It would have been difficult to see familiar items exposed to public gaze and perhaps criticism, so a good thing you didn't attend, but I am sure that many of them will end up in some other family home and continue to give pleasure and form memories for other people.

    Oh DD

I am so sorry I didn't realise this was happening

Good you are still laughing. If not a Maserati maybe a small 2nd hand Porsche 911???

Would be easier to ring the solicitor methinks...

    Love and ((()))

 I rather like that idea! Thanks for the giggle, you too - and Daffy? I hadn't thought about that aspect, so thank you, I will ring my solicitor later to seek his views. DD

Everything sold, a cheque for just over half of the proceeds will be with me in around a fortnight - a goodly sum was raised but once the auctioneers take their cut (plus a 6.60 lot fee, I had thirteen lots which totals 85.80  ) I don't get that much. No matter, it's good that it all went, my solicitor said it's all OK so that's another good thing. DD

Quite a few indeed! I have hatched a plan: the money will be put towards something rather sculptural for our house. DD

Ooooh, DD meets Henry Moore :D Will it have holes in it, to reflect the state of the owner's knees?

Ummmm, me and Henry M? Nah. :| I thought about the Mad March Hare weather vane but I am rather taken with his witch on a broomstick (plus the obligatory black cat) which is also a weather vane. The same chap made our front gate as our wedding present. I don't want to leave it behind but I think that may be necessary. DD

    Sculptural eh?

Sounds a very good idea. I do think you are rather too grown-up for matchbox toys :?
