Another worry

Hi all

As you all know there have been some major problems recently in my family; my sister having to rush home to Oz because her son's brain tumour had grown for instance, and troubles I have had with my mum...she was ill and I had to take her to A&E, and then her being difficult over Christmas? Well my brother had an xray last week for a persistent cough, and yesterday I found out that they found a shadow on his lung. He has to go in and see the specialist on Monday for further tests but it's looking likely that he has lung cancer. I am devastated, and my mum is beside herself. So lots of positive thoughts needed. I had hoped that this new year would bring good things, but it's gotten off to the worst start possible...it seems this is going to be just as hard a year as the last!
If you could keep him in your thoughts I would be grateful.

Thankyou, this site is a lifesaver sometimes...it really helps to be able to get it all out. I have to be strong and cheerful for my mum, and tell her it could be this or that (and it still could be) but with the long standing cough he has, and his 40 a day smoking it's not looking good. But I can't tell her that.
In the meantime I am suffering; most of my pain has been confined to my right side SI joint, buttock hip and thigh but lately it has spread to my left too, so I'm guessing it has progressed (suspected AS). It's now also an all day all night pain rather than easing off for most of the day. But in light of what my brother is going through I don't feel like I should be complaining.

    *Sigh*

You are suffering as well so you have every right to complain about feeling bad. I can understand how hard it must be having to be the positive rock for your mother when she is worried and scared for your Dad. You need to speak to your Rhummey Nurse or make an appt to see your consultant or G.P soon. Remember you need to feel strong physically as well as mentally. Your no good to anyone if your suffering constantly.

Oh Ouch, it's just one thing after another. As has been said, please look after yourself too. It is so easy to forget to do that when we are caring and worrying about others. As for complaining, this is where we all come to do just that. We're hear to listen and support. (((hugs)))

Hi everyone, and thanks for your thoughts. It's my brother's apt tomorrow morning at 8.45, so I guess a sleepless night for him, my mum and me. Hopefully he will get some answers then. As for me I am really suffering today, with horrible pain in my ribs, you know the kind of pain that makes you want to be sick?

Oh well, once dinner is over it will be hot water bottle and feet up and try and ease it a bit.

    Hope you're all doing well.

Thanks once again. I found out tonight that he found out on 23rd Dec but didn't tell any of us so he didn't spoil our Christmas. He is hitting the bottle hard - a big blow out before his life changes tomorrow he said - if it's bad news there will be big changes, and if it's not bad news then he has to make some drastic changes to his lifestyle...he drinks and smokes heavily, and has a sedentary job. I've made a pact with him that we both go on a diet together and have a weekly weigh in :D

Keep those positive thoughts coming everyone.

    Hi everyone

Well, mixed news really. The consultant said that yes...there is something there, it is 8mm but doesn't jump out at him as anything serious BUT he cannot commit himself to that until my brother has a scan. In fact he said he would probably have missed it himself (which is a bit worrying!). He said it could be scarring from a previous chest infection.

He is having a scan tomorrow morning, and will hopefully get the results tomorrow evening (his wife knows the consultant as she works in the hospital).

So...not the bad news we were expecting but not (yet) the good news we were hoping for.

Thanks everyone. Still waiting for the results. He had his CT scan this morning, freaked out apparently as he is claustrophobic, and now it's just a case of waiting by the phone.

    Fingers crossed.
