Gastrocopy on Tuesday, feeling nervous

I just wondered if anyone has had this done?
Post my neck surgery I have developed a constant feeling of pressure on my throat and some mild difficulty in swallowing. There may be some damage to the tissues or muscles around my throat as a result of the surgery, but to find out more I am having a Gastrocopy. Just got all the stuff about it from the hospital and feel a bit anxious.
OA, the gift that goes on giving!

I haven't had this but my god daughter has had 2 and is having it done again on Monday . She barely remembers it being done as they give her some pills to take which make her very sleepy, and she has had no after effects. Hope this helps. Barbara G.

I think a former user had one after her neck surgery, I think she had mild sedation to help her cope with it. It won't be pleasant but you won't be alone, have you heard of our pocket duties? This was a system created by another former user who lived on her own and had no-one to go with her to appointments; we would hop into her pockets so she had cyber support. :) If you are nervous I am happy to hop into one of yours - I usually bring champagne and strawberries. DD

    Hi Slosh;

I had one 1.5 years ago, it really was the easiest procedure to go through. Went to sleep, woke up and it was done! Nothing to it. Painless, no need to worry.

    Best wishes,

    Anna

Thanks, I like the idea of pocket duties, I had seen it on here and wondered what it was.
Thanks for the reassurance as well,.
Yes to the pocket duties DD, but you can have the strawberries!
Not allowed to have anyone with me due to lack of space, but hubby on hand to escort me home as I'm not having it done without the sedative!

    Hi Slosh,

I had one a few months ago for unexplained vomiting. I had sedation and pain relief but only because I was having a colonoscopy afterwards. It was such a quick procedure. It felt a bit odd but not uncomfortable and it was over in a few minutes. They played me soothing music and chatted to me, so I felt really relaxed.

Wishing you luck. Will be in your pocket too!

I'll be there too, Slosh. I had an ERCP a few years ago - similar to a gastroscopy - and, although I was very nervous, it was just fine. They sprayed my throat and I had sedation - never felt a thing! Hope it all goes well for you.

    Thanks DD.
It's great to have the support, I've now got my daughter to worry about too. She's 22 and has an unidentified health problem which means she is on loads of pain meds. Her GP and local hospital just keep mucking her about. She texted me last night to say she was back in A and E again. We know what it isn't but not what it is. Can't wait to be able to drive again so I can go and see her.
Guess we won't be shopping on Friday afterall.

I wasn't sure of the protocol so I have posted separately about today.
    Basically
a: my throat problem is a result of the neck surgery I had
b: I have to stop taking NSAIDS as I now have a stomach problem as a result of these.
    Off to GP tomorrow
    Thanks for the support
