Hi,
Well I'm back home now. My consultant is lovely.....
He walked behind me when we were going to his room and when I sat down he said how much better I was walking {he saw me 3 months ago} I should hope so after 17 weeks :o
The first thing he mentioned was my ankles.....oedema .....so water tablet have been prescribed. I can get up often enough during the night without water tablets
I mentioned my ankle was very sore {one with OA} and he said the oedema would make it sorer.
He's certain I have osteoporosis even though we haven't yet got the results of the DEXA scan. I mentioned that I had pain and stiffness {more so than OA} in the morning....he said that could be the OP??
The X Rays done today were perfect......everything was fine.
He said get your list out and lets go through it  Do you think he knows me
He said safety when walking was the main thing.....use 2 crutches if I thought I needed to or one if I could get away with it.
I told him about the walking in the house without anything and he said that's fine.....you are bound to still dip a bit and your scoliosis doesn't help matters.
His opinion is that I am much better but cant see it because I'm living it....he can see it. If you could sit down and think what were you were like 2 months ago you would realise you have made progress.
I'm seeing him in 6 months time....he will X Ray the ankle as well as the hip at the next appointment.
I think that's all......I take lists but its remembering everything that's said
Love
Hileena

That sounds like a positive appointment. Must have been good to have had it confirmed that you have made progress. Well done on all your hard work.
He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I can only echo what Slosh has said. Well done you!

Hileena that went well anyway, it good to know he can see a differnce in you..not easy to see when you are in pain, so you are getting there, now for the results of the scan, hope they come back soon, then hopefully you can start the treatment..bet you are shattered..((())) xx

    Hi Slosh SW and Barbara
I've just pm'd you Barbara.....that crossed with your pm to me
Yes it was a positive appointment and I suppose if I really think about it I have improved but not as quickly as I wanted to.

I've accepted the chronic things and deal with them OK but because this is supposed to be acute I keep expecting it to be healed quickly....think I better just content myself and look on it as a chronic illness and treat it like the OA scoliosis etc and when /if it heals it will be a bonus

    Morning Meg
    Yes my consultant is lovely...
I know with OA its the GP that treats you but I've been seeing him because 4 years ago I had a first THR, then they thought it was referred pain from my back so back and forward from back specialist to him.....then had the 2nd THR Jan this year then the fracture :?
The first time I saw him after the fracture {about 2 weeks} he said try to walk in the house with no crutches but not without Nurse Peter there to catch you
He calls Peter my Memory because I come with my lists but Peter is the one that remembers what was said.
    Hope you are OK today
    Love

That sounds a good appointment, I for one found it reassuring so I hope you did too. He is right, when you are in the middle of living with something you don't appreciate the progress that has been made (and is being made) especially if one has a slightly impatient attitude  . You will get this sorted in due course, of that I am sure; I find that my water tablet affects me in the morning (for a couple of hours after taking it, I take with my BP med) but then things 'calm' down. :) DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi DD
When I look back....it was a positive appointment.
As for impatience....well you know me
I haven't got any water tablets yet.....GP will prescribe them.
That sounds optimistic.....I imagined I would be running all the time.
I take a BP tablet in the morning so that sounds good.
We'll see when I get them
I know about oedema but one thing he told me that I didn't know is that if its in your ankles its in the rest of your body???
Lungs etc.....if you walk or run reasonably fast {Chance would be a fine thing :lol: } you will get breathless and that is the oedema.
I had never heard that before
