Hi all x I hope you are all well. I'm suffering at the mo with hip pain x I went to rhumy a few weeks ago who wasn't convinced it was my inflammatory arthritis , so sent me for x ray ( going back on 4th) my pain seems to raidiate from my hip to my bum then down the back if my leg at times x esp when sitting for 10 mins or more ! But I've also had a pain in my front thigh and down my shin ????? Mainly on my left side - it reminds me of growing pains ! Any ideas ? Oesto ?? Xx

It doesn't ring a bell with my pre-THR hip pain but we're all different. I hope the x-ray will help to determine how to treat it.

Absolutely none because I am not a doc. My OA hip pain is very different to yours and the other pains you mention could be caused by all manner of non-arthritis-related matters. The Xray will be a starting point so I wish you well with that. (Prepare yourself for extra discomfort, those Xray beds are very hard.) DD

That sounds quite a lot like the pains I had due to my prolapsed disc and facet joint arthritis. Back of leg from L5S1 and front of leg from L4L5. Mine was always worse when sitting down - puts extra pressure through the spine. Just a thought - maybe mention it next appointment?

    Hello lynnemarie1123
The pain you describe could well be your back, I have just had a MRI of my S1 joint sacroiliac joint between the hips, it is now thought that this was casing a lot of my hip pain, don't get me wrong I needed the THR but I am still in pain and it does radiates down.
Hope you can some help soon
    Love
    Barbara

DD I am well aware you aren't a doctor I was only asking for advise and wondered if anyone else had similar experiences! X

It may be my back as it's where the main part of my problems lie. I have already had my x rays - so will see what the çonsultant says on 4th x thanks guys x

That's my point, we cannot advise because we don't have the required knowledge. We are all very individual with how we are affected by pain and what the causes behind it are. I'm a shocker because I don't bother analysing mine or what's hurting where and how: it hurts, end of. 'Swallow the dullers and flog.' on is my motto. DD

It's a pity that the other analysers on here aren't around to help you but that's no great surprise. DD

    Hi,
I've got degenerative disc disease L4/L5 (that disc is completely knackered) as well as damage to my facet joints there - from osteoarthritis.

My pain started off in my left hip and I had absolutely agonising pain down the front of my thigh. Currently I get pain running across the back of my pelvis to my left hip and the pain then runs down the back of my thigh to about the knee. However, as I need that knee replacing (plus that ankle) none of my specialists are able to say what joint is causing what other joint to flare. I know my spinal condition isn't helping my knees and ankle but at the same time I know my knees and ankle aren't helping my back. I have a partial knee replacement in my right knee but still get OA pain from the remaining bone in the joint.

When my spine originally caused problems I couldn't lay on my left side, now I can sometimes but not often. If I stand for too long it hurts, if I sit for too long it hurts, if I try to walk too far - it hurts. However, I suppose I've got used to it. It's been suggested to me this may be sciatica but I have no proof, although I will be talking to my spinal consultant when I see him next week.

When you get the chance to do so,ask your consultant all the things that are worrying you. Is your GP supportive?

Facet joint injections didn't work for me, but that's not to say they won't work for you so please don't let me put you off. I know some people who were absolutely delighted with them.

Good luck and I hope you get your queries resolved sooner rather than later.

    Take care,
    GraceB
