Hi
Can any of you lovely people come up with any suggestions?
You know I had a THR 7 months ago then 6 months ago a fracture in my hip.
It is getting worse {The pain}
The mobility is very gradually getting better but pain is agony.
My appointment with the consultant isn't until Dec {roughly} still haven't got a date......My physiotherapist is off with a broken leg.
He's the one I've been going to {when I needed to} since I was diagnosed with OA.....a long time ago.
I rang the dept and she said he'll be back in approx. 2 weeks but they aren't taking any appointments for him at the moment because they don't know quite what he'll be able to cope with at first.
I asked if I could see someone else .....all his patients have to get a referral from their GP!!!!
My GP wont give me a referral.....just says keep doing the OA exercises
Any suggestions anyone please. I was siting here crying this morning.....not like me.
Love
Hileena

Oh dear, no this is not like you. I am so sorry, please have some hugs. ((( ))) My fractured humerus still hurts (and some of the deep bruising is still evident) and this is eight months after, but knowing that my last Xray showed the bones had knitted OK I guess the deeper healing is still going on.

I feel that your GP is letting you down because you obviously need more informed help than he can provide, and how long would a referral take? :? I have one suggestion: is there any way you could see a physio privately? I went down that route before I knew what was up with me (and obviously she didn't help much) but your situation is known and that would give you access to some immediate advice and help. You're very clued-up about your conditions so should be able to give them a thorough background. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hileena you never complained before you had your second THR and the fracture so it must be painful,I think you should see someone I know you cant see the Physio but your GP should help ..if only they could see pain them maybe they would take it serious..the longer this goes on the more down you will be and we don't want that  hope you can get some relief very soon (((()))) xx

    Hi Hileena

I am very sorry to hear this and as others have said you are not one to complain. In fact I think you have coped very well indeed considering it was such an unfortunate thing to happen and not your fault at all.

I would like to give your gp a slap on the wrists and that is being polite. Who does he think he is? He knows you are not a time waster. Can you see another GP? That often helps to get another opinion at least. As DD suggests could you pay for a physio session. If so try to find a physio someone has recommended, one that has an interest in especially in hips, if you know what I mean. ;) Perhaps a letter from a physio, to your GP might speed things up for you.

Oh I am sorry, Hileena. ((((()))))

I hope you can pressure your GP with how intense your symptoms are. There has to be something he can do to help you. I'm afraid I don't know how your system in the UK works, but would it take a long time for a new physiotherapist referral? It sounds like your physio could be out of commission for a long time.

Maybe you could be referred to a clinic on an emergency basis? Apologies, if these aren't options but it's fairly easy to get in with physios here. .....You could come here, and I'll take you.xx

    Hi
Thank you all for your lovely replies.
As for my GP.....she will not give me a referral to another physiotherapist.....says just do the OA exercises :?
The physiotherapist that broke his leg....{physician heal thyself  he'll have a lot of physio}.......he has been seeing me since I was first diagnosed but when he discharges me all I have to do is give the dept a ring and ask to speak to him and he'll fit me in....no referral or anything. He is good. As for a new referral goodness knows how long that would take. Might be better to wait until he comes back...might be as quick LOL
Or there is always as DD pointed out the option of a private one
Marie:- My back specialist wrote to the GP about a year ago asking her to refer me to a pain clinic. I expected to hear from her...I did.....She told me she had a letter from the back specialist and would like me to make an appointment to see her
I did.....all she did was tell me pain clinics were no good, they couldn't do as much as they said they could due to lack of funding so there was no point in me going. I said I wanted to try it......she then said I've just told you they cant do very much and she went to the door, hand on the knob {in other words goodbye} I just sat there.....I said how many things have we tried...various injections etc and they haven't worked.....if a pain clinic works great if it doesn't well that's just one more thing that didn't work and I wouldn't move until she filled a form in for a referral to the pain clinic
Marrianne....not sure if you know it was a fracture in the hip after the THR and they discovered that was because I had osteoporosis....so anyone having a tHR don't be put off please.
    Elna....I've read between the lines of your post and agree with you :lol: As for another GP.......they prefer you to see the same GP if you have multiple injuries {or whatever you call them lol}
I don't think I could get a physio to write a letter...Kristen with a broken leg and needing a referral from the GP to get anoputher physio LOL Vicious circle
Boomer ...I wish I could go there LOL
Actuallly the girl on reception at the physiotherapy department did say come in as an emergency and tell them how sore you are and they might see you without a referral.....then she said DONT TELL THEM I SAID YOU WERE TO DO THIS LOL.
    Barbara
I'm just going to answer a few pm's and I imagine one of them is yours so will have a word with you then
    Thanks again everyone.
I don't feel as bad now ....it has eased off a bit from what it was this morning.
I'm used to stiffness and a bit of pain in the morning from the OA and know it disappears but this past few mornings have been dreadful
    Hope everyone is OK

    Hi Hileena,

I'm so sorry you're in such a lot of pain. I have to say I think your GP is being very unreasonable in not giving you a referral. I think I'd be inclined to turn up at the physio department and do as the girl on reception suggested. You don't need to mention her name, and they will surely know you need some treatment as a matter of urgency.

I hope you can get something sorted. I won't be online after tomorrow, as we're going to Portugal for 10 days, but wish you luck in your quest for help.

Just the two of us, Hileena - we go to a tiny fishing village in the eastern Algarve, not far from the Spanish border. It's quiet and peaceful, and the pace of life suits us. It's no good if you want plenty to do/happy hours/English breakfasts - you have to like the quiet life!

Hi Hileena ,Oh dear I am so sorry not to read back properly ,being of line for so long everything changes ,you were doing so well .I am sorry about the fracture and think physios can be a little pushy not all of them but you listen to your body as you have the pain ,Hope it will start to improve giving more time I had a fractured femur pre R/A and it was painful to the touch for about 2 years I went swimming and had just a little bit of physio now I am not aware of it at all though I had better touch wood :) keep strong love Marrianne (((()))xx
