Hello again, dear friends. I know it has been a very long time since I was around and about. I do hope everyone is as ok as possible and I will read as much as I can.

I think I mentioned last year that Mum had gone into care, with failing health and mental health problems (dementia). Sadly Mum passed away on New Years Day, so that was a smack in the face to 2015. Her last 6 months were good ones though. The care home had a specialist unit to care for people with memory / physical problems and the staff were absolutely wonderful. Mum was settled and thought it was "home", which is nice to remember. The funeral was perfectly fitting for Mum and she is at peace, laid next to Dad.

A lot of sorting out, as you can imagine, finally seem to be done and dusted. Some days are better than others.

Just one thing to finalise, we asked for a full continuing care assessment for Mum, back in August last year, well, we heard nothing and of course Mum has passed now. We have our MP on the case and it has gone to the highest department for a full investigation as nothing was done in a timely manner. We will wait and see, but they should be ashamed. Anyway, that's ongoing.

I am now diabetic, to add to everything else, arthur is biting as arthur does, still taking a shed load of medication, numbers of pills seem to climb for ever. At least my blood sugar is under control and I have lost quite a bit of weight, which is a good thing. Funnily enough it does not seem to help with reducing any pain, hey ho, one carries on.

So, that is where I have been. It will be nice to catch up in the cafe again. Everyone take lots of care, xxxx Bubbles

Hi Bubbles. Good to see you back. Sorry you've had such a bad start to the year. It is very difficult losing your mum but it is good her last days were comfortable for her. Hope you can keep your diabetes under control. It's enough having arthritis. See you in the cafe.

So sorry to hear of your loss Bubbles, it was nice that her final days were happy though.

Also sorry to hear of the diabetes.

Hello Bubbles, I know we haven't 'spoken' much over the years but your name was often around when I joined the forum and I remember you dispensing meds etc. from your trolley.

I am so sorry to read that your Mum has left our world but I think it lovely that she was in good hands towards her end and is next to your Dad. I faced similar sortings out in 2013 when my Ma passed on, and it's far from easy. I am (was?) an only child so it was quite poignant at times - I hope you had siblings or other family to help you.

As for the diabetes - well, how very un-necessary that is but I am sure you will cope. I too have lost weight and agree it makes no difference whatsoever to the joints which are already damaged. I hope you will be around a little more so we can help with support. I wish you well. DD

Hello Bubbles, I don't think we've 'met,' as I only began posting a few months ago.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum, but glad she was well looked after. She will leave a big hole in your life -it's 17 years since my mother died, and I still think of her every day. Dad died two years ago, so there was much to sort out, his house to sell etc.

Sorry you have diabetes too - Arthur doesn't need any companions does he?

    Welcome back Bubbles :jheart:

    It's good to see you.

So sad that your Mum has gone, but good to hear she was very well looked after and she was happy. I will be interested to hear how you get on with the investigation into the funding for your Mum's care. I hope this hasn't meant money-worries as well :?

I hope really hope that the weight loss might settle your diabetes down for you. Shame it doesn't get rid of arthritis isn't it

See you later for a cuppa

    Toni xx

Thanks Toni, very kind of you, I have missed the forum very much, but looking back, we have been on the go for about 4 years and we are pretty much done in to be honest.
I will keep you posted on the funding saga.

It is a pity that arthur does not really improve with weight loss, but once things are damaged, they hurt, regardless. Take care, XX Bubbles

Hello Bubbles, we haven't 'met' so but it's great to hear you felt it was the right time for you to come back to the forum.

I lost my Dad 18 months ago and it's hard. It's still hard to be honest. However, like you, we know that we did as much as we could for him. He knew he was well loved, respected and cared for. We have good memories and although it's still bitter sweet, we recall these with a smile.

He is now reunited with my sister (we lost her 8 months before dad) and my neice (my late sister's daughter - we lost her in 2006 when she was 20), my mother passed when I was 5. We lost them all to cancer.

It's so hard when you lose loved ones but it sounds like you took wonderful care of your mum. It's now time for you to take care of yourself a little.

I look forward to 'meeting you' again on the forum.

    Take care,
    GraceB

Hilena and Grace (good to meet you too). Some time out would be really good. We have kicked back a bit, I cannot keep up like the Duracell Bunny any more.
I know Hilena, the list goes on and on. Some days you get real fed up with it all, look at all the pills and sigh, but, you have to carry on. Just a bad time I guess.
Grace hun, you have had a rough ride. We lost my brother in law just before Christmas 2013, then 5 weeks his wife passed away, then this year my Mum. Christmas is not a good time needless to say.

I will be around the forum, usually in the cafe, although I used to spend a lot of time on living with arthritis, offering help and support. Take care XX

Thank you Tony, most kind of you, good, very good in fact, to see you again. Hope things are as manageable as arthur will allow. We carry on and medals should be awarded henceforth.

Diabetes, well, just another thing to worry about. Having said that, it is well under control and I do have two chocolate biscuits a day, which doesn't affect my blood sugars at all. Maltesers have gone out of the window.

Big hugs from Matron too. XX Bubbles
