Hi Everyone

This is all new to me I was only diagnosed with Arthritis this week eek, I'll go back to how it all began :)

During Feb half term We went to Center Parks and 24hrs after arriving I was in the back of an Ambulance after dislocating my knee (I was standing stationary wen it dislocated) xray showed no fracture so advised to use crutches for a week and see the Oropedic's once I got home

Got home saw orthopaedics said I was concerned as pain was not setteling either was the swelling so they arranged for a Mri scan this was performed and last week went for the results which on the inside of my knee I have a partial tear in the ligament and on the out side of the knee Arthritis and also no grove to hold the knee bone in place mine is smooth (congenital apparently) because of my age (41) not a candidate for surgery as I would require a full knee replacement ...The consultant is now referring me to a knee specialist for their input..

I'm a bit overwhelmed with it all to be honest ... My knee is still swollen and I'm in pain I've just started a new job in a pathology lab which requires me to stand for 7 and a half hours a day Mon - Fri.. the way my knee is at present I don't feel I'll be able to do my job..

sorry its a long first post

Mel x

    Hi Mel

Welcome to the forums where I'm sure you will get a lot of help and good advice from all the lovely people on here.

It is a little quiet being the weekend, but I'm sure that someone will be along to help soon.

We are here if you need any support to do with using the forums. Many of the mods have some of the many varieties of arthritis and we all know about the feelings that go along with having it.

Do read and post across the different topics that you will find here.
    All best wishes

    Hi Mel

and welcome to the forums from me :)

I hope you'll find them as helpful as I have done over the years.

Sounds like things have all gone mad a bit rapidly for you. I bet you are still a bit shocked by it all :?

I wonder whether your new job/employer will be able to provide you with a perching stool of some sort so that you can work? It would be awful to loose the job in the circumstances. I know work-places are supposed to provide reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities, but I can imagine with it all being new you won't want to make a fuss :?

It's amazing to imagine you having had that congenital issue with your knee all this time and it only now showing it's hand. I do feel for you :(

Please do join in on the forums wherever you like we are a friendly bunch and everyone will welcome you

    love

Hi Mel and welcome from me too.

No wonder you're feeling overwhelmed. That's a lot to get your head round all at once.

You will, I guess, still be in recovery from the ligament tear so hopefully things will ease up a bit, painwise, once that has happened. It might be that the knee ortho can make some suggestions too. I hope so.

They don't like putting in new knees on younger people as they are more likely to wear out and a revision (as they call replacing a replacement joint) is a bigger op with ongoing risks. Having said that I got my first two knee replacements aged 35 and have since had a revision but mine was due to twenty years of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Of course you will be worried about the new job and not wanting to make waves but being frank about things now might save trouble later. You could ask to see an Occupational Therapist who could advise on the best way of dealing with your job to minimise pain and maximise recovery from the ligament damage.

Meanwhile we are here to help in any way we can.

Hello Mel, and a warm welcome to the forum. I should think you are still in shock at finding out the state your knee is in.

I think it`s a good idea to talk things over with your GP. At the very least he/she should be able to prescribe some suitable pain relief.
