Isn't it refreshing?

I read that Sports minister Tracey Crouch has resigned over "delays" to a crackdown on maximum stakes for fixed-odds betting machines. The delays are apparently caused by 'commitments made by others to those with registered interests.' ie fat cats.

These are evil, high street machines on which people can bet up to £100 every 20 seconds on electronic casino games such as roulette. They are feeding addictions and causing more and more suicides and family breakdowns

But, it's so gratifying to read of a cabinet minister putting principles above their own prestige. Well done, Tracey Crouch!

Completely off-topic but refreshing nonetheless, I was in our local Co-op the other day when a group of young lads aged between 15 and 17 came in, laughing, pushing, joking and joshing. They were a cheerful lot, not a care in the world. I walked towards the door to leave, reached for the handle when one of them 'Oy! Leroy, get the door for the lady!' By the time Leroy had swung into action I was half-out the door but he duly relieved me of the handle and grinned. His mate said 'I'm sorry, lady, his mum would not be proud of him.' I laughed and thanked them all for brightening an old woman's day (yes, dear reader, I am under no illusion about how I appear to the younger generations).

I agree that it is refreshing to see a politician acting correctly, responding to the demands of the role and 'their' failure to meet agreed actions and targets (they are only figureheads). Thank gawd they're not all like that, though, nothing would ever be achieved. DD

Airwave, I'm sorry for being imprecise. I really wasn't having a go at the government just praising a cabinet member. I meant this to apply across the board.

DD, how lovely! And how lovely to spread the good news. Young people don't always get good press and it's nice to hear of things like this.

Don't worry Sticky, I said it would cause problems when they did it, thank goodness they never got to round to the Super Casino they had plans for.
