Hello Daisymae, I have had problems with my knee for a while an x-ray showed a foreign body in it the consultant said this could be cartilage or bone fragment. He said that cartilage can be damaged by injury wear and tear or just become friable. I don't know which camp I am in just it is a pain keeps locking and giving way.I await an arthroscopy and if that doesn't work as the joint surface has now disappeared a knee replacement. Hope this helps.0

In addition to what stellabean has said, this might help. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cartilage-damage/If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
