PIP and Hip Replacments

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before, I have searched and couldn't find an answer.

I have osteoarthritis in my neck / shoulders / arms and hips. My hips (well all of it) has got worse over the passed few months.

I'm very luck to have private medical insurance through work - so I've been having physio during the lockdown, and got to see a specialist a few weeks ago.

He seems to think that I will need hip replacements, which scares me a load tbh. Apart from the "fear factor" I'm worried financially - I've been awarded PiP (also got a blue badge), and was wondering if I will loose that post hip replacements?

Don't get me wrong, I'll be glad to be out of pain in my hips (fingers crossed), but the benefit has been a huge help.

Thanks

Rob

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is designed to help with some of the extra costs if you have a long term ill-health or disability which means that you have  difficulties with daily living or getting around (or both), it can cover things such as Home Help, chiropodist, massage, adaptations, equipment, food, taxis etc. The amount you get depends on how your condition affects you, not the condition itself. Obviously if your condition changes you are legally obliged to inform the DWP and they will reassess your entitlement.
