Walking stick - knee pain
Hi all, I have both RA and osteoarthritis although currently waiting for MRI to identify cause of knee pain. Had steroid injection 2.5 weeks ago into knee but unfortunately it hasn't reduced pain. Also had 35ml of fluid aspirated from knee joint which did reduce swelling and stiffness (although seems to be returning). Rheumatologist recommended walking stick as I am losing my balance due to knee giving way however has instructed me to use on right side for right knee pain (I don't think this is correct but didn't want to argue). No sleep, lots of pain, fed up.
Any support/advice welcome. Trying to keep moving but it is very difficult and painful.

Welcome to the forum, @LizzieR. You have both RA and OA are are having more problems with your knee, despite an injection and fluid removal. Like you, I thought that walking sticks belonged on the opposite side to the problem, though that was family not medical advice.
The link above is for an exercise program that you may find helpful. and the following some general information on knee pain.
I wish you luck and do let us know how you get on.

If you haven't already got your stick your GP can refer you to a physio who would teach you how to use it safely.
I think it's a really sensible idea the last think you need is to fall!
Lovely to meet you @LizzieR
