Imraldi / Paternal issues

Hi all,

I'm trying to look for some wording, articles or generally anything online which provides some information around the side effects and concerns that taking Imraldi has when men are trying to conceive a child, other than anything on fertility.

Can anyone point me in the direction of this at all? My consultant said that he wouldn't have any concerns in continuing to take the medication and trying to conceive but as much as I trust him, the nurse who first went through the medication with me said otherwise.

Many thanks.

Hi @uberteknix firstly let me welcome you to the forum I hope you find the information and support you are after from our wonderful community.

I can see from your post that you are concerned about the effects of your current medication Imraldi may have on fertility or with trying to conceive.

I can personally relate to this situation as I have been on Adalimumab for 9 years now and went through the whole dilemma around taking the medication while trying for children and understanding the risks. All the information I received from my specialists showed minimal risks to damaging the fetus and there was even research and evidence showing minimal risk if it was the mother taking the medication.

I know that it is a scary time but your Rheumatologist should be able to advise you of the current guidance around Adalimumab (Imraldi) and issues with conceiving. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

The site is full of information and I wanted to signpost you to some information leaflets that could help, linked to as a starter information on Adalimumab and its side effects.

This link below is the latest guidance on drugs and pregnancy / fertility. It looks positive for Adalimumab.

The document is embedded in this article on fertility and Arthritis.

Please feel free to search the forum for others with similar experiences and I am sure that some of our community will be able to help offer some useful suggestions.

Take care and I hope you get some answers soon.

    Thanks

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,

Thank you so much for the reply. I really appreciate it and for the signposts to the information.

Do you mind me asking what your outcome on the dilemma was? Whether you stopped or continued?

    Thanks,

    Craig

    Hi Craig,

No problem at all yes we decided to try whilst staying on Adalimumab and we were incredibly lucky that our daughter came along with no complications, perfectly healthy and completely changed our life over the last two years.

    Thanks

    Joe

    How wonderful @jeddison1985

If anything is going to reassure @uberteknix that happy outcome is!

This thread will be really useful for other men in a similar position in future. I cannot remember, in all the years I've been using the forum, men being able to discuss their fears about medication and conception.

take care and Craig - when have a happy outcome you must post back on this thread. Good luck!

  • Hi Joe,

That's great, I'm pleased to hear that. Thank you so much for the information and your time.
