Osteoarthritis in left ankle

Following surgery ten years for a distal tibia and fibula fracture (plus four metatarsal fractures ) I have an IM nail and fixings. I've always had swelling around the left ankle since the surgery but now I've been told that there is some arthritis in the ankle. There is some stiffness in the ankle and I'm wondering how best to avoid it getting any worse?

The type of arthritis following on from trauma or surgery tends to be osteoarthritis OA, otherwise known as age-related changes in the joint. The way we can support our bodies to manage the ageing process as well as possible will include keeping moving and doing specific physiotherapy exercises as well as healthy eating to keep weight down.
