Inflammation and toothache

Hi all sorry I don't post regularly but I use the forum for advice rather than to socialise. I have sero negative RA which my consultant told me the other day is a diagnosis for 'it could be anything other than Rheumatoid Arthritis'. So in other words when they aren't sure which auto immune disease you have after blood tests this is what they label you as. I am due my regular bloods for the meth in a week or so and he has put crp on it as well as I'm having heel pain lately. Is it possible that raised inflammation levels could be causing toothache and I went to the dentist just over a week ago and he said I was fine. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @Maturecheese

It's great to hear from you. I understand your frustrations, and hopefully you will get some clearer answers soon with the rest of your bloods. From personal experience, there seems to be no end to the possibilities of pain in any area of the body during a flare up, but of course I'm no medical professional. It could be that there is another condition that you haven't been tested for yet which could be contributing to your toothache.

I also see that you have recently began to experience pain in your heel. See below for the VA information and advice related to pain in the foot/ ankle:

I hope this is of some use to you, but keep us posted and let us know how you get on! I'm sure there are plenty of other members who could share their experiences with you too!

    Take care,

    Sarah

    Morning @Maturecheese

When I was flaring once a few years ago my jaw got involved. That felt like my teeth too for a week or more until it was obvious it was my jaw as it stuck (almost totally) shut for a while.

If you can take anti inflams take them as prescribed and do your very best to relax that jaw especially as you drop off to sleep (dentist advised me). Pain can make us tense up and almost grind our teeth in our sleep.

    Hope it eases off soon.

    BTW I am sero-neg too.

Lots of inflammatory arthritides are including Psoriatic Arthritis for one.

    Take care

Well I went to the dentist today and as usual with these things it wasn't as painful as it is at night or other times of day.🙂 Anyway after three x rays and a lot of tapping my teeth the dentist said she wasn't sure what the cause was so she gave me some antibiotics in case it is an infection by my wisdom tooth. She did also mention it could be another wisdom tooth problem but I cant remember what that was. She also said the hospital would be reluctant to take it out due to the meds and the chance of infection. She also ruled out arthritis in the jaw. I'm hoping the antibiotics work.

Update from a thread I started today because i forgot about this one

    Hi all

Been on Meth and Benepali now for a couple of years but in the last 2 months I have had two infections of the mouth. I went to the dentist as I thought I had an abscess but they could not find anything even after x rays. Anyway this went on for a week or so and so I asked for and had a 5 day antibiotics course but it didn't help (clearly I should have stopped the meds) After this I insisted they took out the tooth that appeared to be causing the pain. Still no joy so I asked for a week long antibiotic course and this time I did stop my meds and it worked. 6 weeks later the infection is back, I have a blocked ear on that side and I have banging tooth ache so yet again i have come off my meds and started a 7 day antibiotic course and the pain has gone. It went the day I started the antibiotics. Now my problem is this, the dentist can't find anything wrong and the GP's are pretty useless. What do I do now as I cannot keep stopping my meds especially as i exercise rigorously twice a week. I either have to spend an hour or more on the phone trying to get a gp appointment or I have to leave a message on the Rheumy helpline at my local hospital. Bear in mind I am in S Wales and the NHS here is dismal.
