Morning all, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hands last August, then it was found in my thoracic spine. Also have degenerative discs in my neck. Anyone found that 24-48 hrs before it rains their aches and pains get worse? Have been prescribed Co-odamol 30/500 and oramorph. Feel like doc just isn't interested. I'm 58, still working full time and can't afford to stop, any info, advice would be gratefully received

Yes, weather does affect arthritis - or rather air-pressure (which is weather I suppose). Rain, damp and hot humid conditions all affect me. And I live in wet Wales !!!! I'm 70 so retired from teaching.

I too have arthritis in my hands (among other places) and I go to a hand specialist in the hospital here. I'm awaiting an op. I've had steroid injections at the base of both of my thumbs. Worked brilliantly in one hand, not so good in the other.

But the thing that really has helped are the exercises that the Occupational Therapist at the hospital gave me. She gave me splits and compression gloves (need to be careful not to wear them for too long or you impede the circulation). I do the exercises daily - they are easy and straightforward andreally make a difference. I also bought some orthopaedic putty (like plasticene or blu-tak) and it's great. I can squash and squeeze when I sit and watch TV. I find that it really helps. The OT also gave me special stuff that I can use to open jars - although I don't find that much help and "Good Grips" have stopped making the jar/bottle open that used to use.

Mind you I have had to give up playing renaissance recorder, guitar is very difficult (uke is better) and piano - well Chopin is now impossible for the most part. Still I suppose I can always bang a tambourine!!!

Hope you can find something that helps.
