HI All,

thought I'd just let you know that I now have a very fetching PAIR of night resting splints and look a real sight once I am strapped in :lol::lol::lol::lol:

The right hand splint has been a real boon so I'm hoping the left one will help too.

Also have a perching stool and a raised toilet seat on order which will be delivered soon, and in 3 weeks the OT is coming to our house to assess my workstation and our bathroom & bedroom for any other adaptations we might need. think I better get a duster out  :lol:

I ahve been really impressed with how helpful my OT has been and positive it has made me feel about accepting the help on offer, and also about needing the help inthe first place.

One thing I am going to do is customise my perching stool to make it a little less utilitarian, so any suggestions are welcome!!!!

hugs to you all
Wonky xxxx

Hi Wonky, So glad that your getting help.
As you know i was seeing OT at the hossie to. Only only went for 3 weeks.
I have my perching stool(it came 3 days after she ordered it) I took one look at it & thought thats gonna be no good. Yes it is..
I can sit at the sink & wash up,chop all my vegs sitting on my perching stool.
I dont know about pimping up a perching stool as mines on loan from the Red cross. The seat is chocolate brown & the frame is white so not to bad.
I also have my bed lever & again i took one look & thought i'll never use that. First night it was put in the bed i was turning over holding on to it as if it was there before.
Ive got to ring for my soft splints in 2 weeks as they were out of stock in my size.these are soft moulded splints. The velco ones irritate.
I asked about resting splints & was told they wont be any good for me as they weaken the wrists & i could only have thumb splints.

I hope you find your adaptions a godsend like i do with mine.

    Hi Wonky
glad you got your splints. Brilliant and so comfortable. If my hands and wrist are really sore I put a cold compress on before I go to bed and that helps.

I'm waiting for my referral to go through to the OT dept, talk about long wait. My splint has started to disintegrate after 2 years so need a new one.

Hope it helps you a lot like mine. I miss my left hand one, so what I do is wear my right hand one and then rest my left hand on top so it does get a bit of support.

I think you can certainly call them passionkillers to beat all passionkillers. Make you laugh though.

    you got me thinking Toni!
not sure if it is on long loan or mine .... but will ask .... it was her suggestions that I could customise it so I guess anything would be ok.

heard a rumour that they can't give things to someone else after they have been in a home due to the dangers of cross infection - not sure how true this is but anything is possible these days

can't wait ........ but I do agree that the splints are def. Passionkillers, although we have a laugh about them ... and well they are removable :D:lol:

    HI Jan,

you can ask your GP for a referral to OT - mine once referred me to the community based OT's which are connected to social services I believe. They did give me some help & advice so it would be worth asking .... ... the OTI am seeing now is connected to my rheumatology dept.

you don't get anything if you don't ask .... and being in pain is no fun so get asking girl

    hugs

    Hi Wonky,

Glad you have your passion killers  you could always try trimming them with PVC and lace :lol:

I think the equipment from your OT is on 'permanent loan' you have to sign a form saying that you won't be selling them off either on a market stall or ebay then they will be yours for as long as you need them.

What about dangling a little cuddly toy from your perching stool - I have a little teddy bear on the strap of my walking stick :D

    Luv Legs :D

    Hi Wonky
Glad your splints are helping....as for the perching stool....mine is blue with white metal....on loan because of THR. Got all the usual stuff which I assume will go back but I want to keep my litter picker upper as my little grandaughter calls it LOL...It is handy.....not sure about the perch stool?????? I would keep it or ask to keep it if I thought it would be much use to me but am not sure.
Did anyone else keep things after a THR???? I would be interested to know what helped and what didnt after a few weeks... Things like the raised toilet seat were brilliant but dont need it now.
Any advice before I send the stuff back????
    Love
    Hileena
