I had a good rheumy appointment yesterday. Mainly because he was on holiday and I got to see the nurse! All he's interested in are my bloods, (crp always way too high ), and trying to persuade me to have Retuximab.
Anyway the nurse got another rheumy to look at my feet and he said I have a policemans heel. ( He can jolly well have it back again )
He gave me gel inserts for my shoes. He was concerned about swelling in my ankle and gave me the choice of a steroid injection in ankle, or increasing the pred for a couple of weeks. Ever the coward I agreed to increase the pred. Nurse is also referring me for more physio for my hands. It was so refreshing not having to stand my ground as regards the Retuximab.
Hope you're all as well as you can be . Numpty

I guess he is always interested in the bloods, Numpty, as they reflect what is or is not happening with the treatment you are taking. I always had very high CRP and ESR and it's only the Humira that has reduced those figures to miniscule amounts. That, however, was tried far too late and as a result the pain has not lessened as the joint damage was too much and OA has resulted, but at least the anti TNF and meth are controlling my PsA. I remind myself of that salient fact every time I do my injections. :) When I began the humira my figures were both in the 170s, after one injection they dropped to the mid 50s and since then they have been consistently below 5. We do walk a tricky tightrope at times but I would always choose the meds as I cannot live that well without them - making that choice is not easy though, I do empathise. I hope you feeling as OK as you can be today. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi DD, I do understand what you're saying.I'm sure its frustrating for the Rheumy. I'm just not ready for this drug yet. I'm scared to use it because of the risk of PML. I have tried Humira and Enbrel but they didn't work at all for me, and I had severe side effects, as I have with most meds. Wishing you well, Numpty

Glad it went well. Policemans heel/plantarphaciitis is painfull, the injection does help though. Ive had it twice.

Hope phisio goes well, If they offer to use the wax hand bath on you do it , it is fantastic.

    Hi Numpty,

Glad to hear you had a good appointment. I must admit that I do like the nurse lead appointments as they have more time to explain things and have a wealth of knowledge which they have the time to pass on to you. My Rheumy is great but time is limited so I find that I am more relaxed when I see the nurse.

I hope the inserts help with the heal pain, I have been given shoe inserts which have helped with both foot and ankle problems, so fingers crossed that you find the same.
