folic acid

I've been reading through old threads as well as new ones lately and just have a little question. Since starting methotrexate I've been put on Folic Acid 5mg once a week 2 days after taking the methotrexate. It seems to me that a lot of folks are on folic acid a few times a week not once a week like me. Am I on a higher dose and is that why I take it only once a week or should I be on more? What dose is everyone else taking? I think the folic acid people take prior to getting pregnant is much smaller than 5mg. Any replies would be welcome.

    Hi i also am on methotrexate and like you take 5mg of folic acid once a week 2 days after. I think it seems like its up to the rhumatologist what he thinks works best. I have moved from north london to devon and am waiting to see a new rhumatologist and see what he has to say about it. It seems to work ok for me as i dont have many side effects. ( thank goodnesss)

    Hi , Im one mtx too and I only take the same, twice a week

    Hi

    I take 2 tablets of folic acid, one the day after mtx and one two days later.

    It does seem to be down to different rheummys giving different advice on folic acid.

    i take 20mg mxt and 2 days later 5mg folic acid same as you.

    Hi everyone.

    I was told by my rheumy dept to take one every day starting 24 hours after the injection. I have a check list to complete each week.
    Your have to put a '0' against things like, 'hair loss', mouth ulcers, nausea or sickness' etc. If you get any of the side affects you put a '1'. If you get 2 or more '1's', then you have to ring the nurses and do not take your MTX until you have heard back. Whenever I have had these side effects, then it is. Just increase your Folic Acid.
    One a week is not enough really.

    Hi I take folic acid everyday except the day I inject methotrexate.

    Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. It's good for me just to have some idea of what others are doing. I know we're all different, I think it's just me wanting to know what options are available to me. I'm still so new to all of this. :)
