Hi

I was just wondering if anyone was on HRT for the menopause, I have been having all sorts of hot flushes, night sweats and light headedness so had a blood test and my doctor thinks its the start of the menopause and she wants me to try HRT but I am so wary what with all the tablets I have to take to keep my RA under control.

Just wondered if anyone was on it and if they found it helped or whether just to cope without tablets.

    Hi, Yes. I'm on the patches which I've been on for the past 23 years. I was one of the volunteers that got them licenced for this coutry.
    I had a total historectomy when I was 30, just before I got married!
    thats why we don't have kids. Oh well, thats life. :wink:

    Anyway the consultant at Oxford, my home town then, managed to get me the patches. They work fantastically for me and mean I only have a small dose of the hormone and its a natural hormone.

    If I forget to put a new one on, I start getting flushes after a couple of days! love Sue

    Thanks for your reply Sue, my Doctor has given me a prescription for tablets but its only a very low dose, I might have a word to her about patches when I go back.

    Sorry but I cannot help I carn't take HRT due to deep vain thrombosis risk but I have several friend who swear by them I can sympathies the sweats are horrid and not comfy

    Thanks Debbie, think I'm just scared of taking even more tablets.

    Hi, The patches were given to me partly because at 30, it would be a long term treatment and I needed the lowest dose possible to cut the risks of osteoprosis (sp?). As I am now, gosh, I'm so glad I had them! I discussed my case with my GP recently, being the grand old age of 54, she said as my blood pressure is low and I have no cancer risks in my family, she said it was up to me, but she could see no medical reason to stop taking them! :D Love Sue

    Thanks Sue, I think I'm probably just being silly about the thought of more tablets my doctor mentioned that HRT does help with cutting the risk of osteoporis so I suppose that a plus as to why to take them. I also had a part hystrectomy when I was 38 for other medical problems whicj they think is adding to my problems. I have got to wait for a couple of blood tests to come back before I start anything they are also making sure that my throid is ok and that I'm not diabetic as that runs in the family.

    Hi

    I'm going through the menopause - hot flushes and sweats. GP won't put me on HRT as blood pressure too high.

    I may ask her again!

    hi yes been on them couple of years as started going through it early and not good for bones. and could not have coped with out was not sleeping at all with sweating ect and was affecting my mind not sure if that was hormones or lack of sleep. so far no prob with them

    Hi Deb, Iwas on HRT for 2 years for menopause, then my gp said i had to come off due to risks. Still had some night sweats, but then was ok after about 6 months. I get them now, but think it couldbe due to other things, I am on MXT and am being tested soon for lupus, seeing gp on monday. I had pills, but a friend has patches and swears by them.
