that no matter how tired I am the minute I go to bed I am wide awake? My mind seems to go into overtime, even reading for a while doesn't help.

I try not to nap during the day but that doesn't make a difference. I am constantly tired and normally can sleep at the drop of a hat but lately I can't.

I am a bit of a worrier and when I go to bed everything goes through my head, used to be a got my best ideas in bed but now it's all health and when will I be fit to go back to work, will I get work.....

Have been a bit depressed on and off lately, you all know the usual ups and downs and my OH reckons its a sympton of the depression? Also, can't get into my favorite sleep position since I had the op it's still too painful and that isn't helping.

Think I will need to pop down to the chemist and maybe try something like nytol, not sure if these types of things work but will give it a bash.

Thank's for listening to my moans.

Sleepy Anne

    Hi Anne
    Poor you :(
Hubby may well be right about depression and it may only be temporary - recative depression - a result of what you've been through so it may pass. Another symptom is waking up or waking up too early.
Thing with sleep problems is they are habit forming really easily so yes - get down to the chemist ASAP and try to sort it out.
I have amitriptyline which helps me now.
    Take care
    Hope you are awake now!

    Hi Anne,

Its not uncommon to have problems sleeping with the pain and worry thing. I tend to drift off and get a few hours then wake, worry again, drift off and feel wished the next day.

I used nytol a while back and it dd help re establish the sleep thing so it might be worth a try and if you can meditate the drift off way to sleep is quite effective.

I am with Toni on thinking it is a reaction to all you have gone through and it will pass but the herbal ones seemed to help me for a while after a stint of nights and my be worth a try. It the emptying your mind bit that helps me. I am alone so I can also fall asleep watching a vid or with some music on. Try and have a bit of a rest today and I hope you have a better night. Cris x

    Hi Anne
Thats when all the day's problems become manifest iisn't t, when you lie down to sleep and there is just you and your worries. Have you tried writing all your worries down on a piece of paper just before you go to sleep. Then using imagary to distance yourself from that piece of paper. (it will still be there to remind you in the morning!) and take yourself off to a place in your imagination that is soothing and comforting for you. Every time a worry pops into your head imagine putting on that bit of paper and then hop back to your make believe place!
Also try getting into a bedtime routine, ie bath or shower or whatever your ablutions involve. Hot drink and bed. Music helps me. (I use headphones) and I have friends who swear by herbal sleeping pills.
Hope you get a good night tonight.

Hi Chris and Toni if you are still there.
    Love Gillx

    Hello,
Have you talked to your GP about this? I had the problem of waking with pain about 3 or 4 am and not going back to sleep. My GP gave me amatriptylne and that helps a lot. Its not a sleeping pill, its an old fashioned anti depressant, which in small doses helps with pain and sleep. May be worth chatting to your GP. Also, as Japer says grabbing knaps when you feel sleepy during the day is a good way of catching up with sleep. Hope you find something that helps you, Love Sue

    Hi Anne

I tried amitryptiline too which worked ok. Some of the OTC stuff is ok too.

Hope you get a better night's sleep (and that the hips are behaving!)

Thanks everyone. Sleep is usually one of my favorite past-times so this is very annoying. I am constantly tired and usually have no problems having a nap during the day and then sleeping at night but just can't do at the moment.

I bought some nytol today and will give them a try. I did mention it to my GP and we discussed how the brain is more active at night. I do think it is a side effect of the depression, which I am not taking anything for. He is looking at medicating and I will discuss all the options at my next visit.

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

    Hi Anne

Sorry to hear that you're not sleeping. Try not to eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. Have a bath or shower one hour before going to bed. Don't read or watch tv in bed. See if that works.

I take amytriptline which sends me off to sleep very nicely - my problem now is getting out of bed.

You may need to see your GP.

    Take care.

    Hi Everyone,

I took the Nytol but didn't get to sleep until after 2am (which is a bit earlier than normal). Will keep trying for a few days and see if it makes a difference.

I have the pain clinic tomorrow and I will probably have to go to Doc to get my meds changed so I will discuss it with him again.

The problem is I am so tired all the time. Plus I am B12 defeicient & have pernocious anemia and my jag is due in a couple of weeks and this makes me really weary.
