Well I found out this morning that despite jumping through hoops enduring the 'medical experience' I am still being refused DLA.
To sum it up:
I can walk 250 metres slowly and with aids
I am not a danger to myself or others
I can wash and dress myself slowly
Plus a few others. If I want I can take it to an independant appeal but at the moment I am so disheartened by the whole process. I will phone tomorrow to see if I can get a copy of the medical, should make intresting reading.
Time for a rant.....I had thought that DLA was to assist people with disabilities have a normal life e.g get taxis if required?? It seems impossible to get??

sorry to hear that you were turned down , I took it to the social commissoners ( its like a court, had the head of cab pleading my case for me , but still was turned down as they said as I have cruthces and walk slowly I am still ok, ) Its crazy how they come to some decisions.
Take care

I am so fed up with the whole system. I posted last week that my OH lost his job just over a week ago. The owner of the company is we think pulling a fast one and although he has been there nearly 10 years it was no job, no money, goodbye. He hasn't even been paid his wages for the last month. OH went to CAB and explained the situation so we have all the info about redundancy claims employment tribunal but at the mo everything is at a standstill for the holidays. He explained I hadn't worked since February because of health and they said 'she should claim' he explained I was already appealing DLA...
He then went to sign on another farce as we were going to Brussels for 2.5 days booked months ago he couldn't as he was out the country....Maybe we are too honest?? To sum we think we may get (if lucky) £64 a week!!
I am now thinking of returning to work early the only problem is a lot of my work is 100 mile round trip every day. What choice do we have? I need more surgery been told sooner rather than later but before I can consider need to return to work to boost the savings again.
What a system I have worked all my life and have never claimed a penny.
Sorry to go on.

It never seems to amaze me the benefit system.
A long while ago, I lost one leg.
I was told by a doctor that within a year I would be 100 per cent fit, (despite being told I would become more disabled)
I asked the doctor if it would hurt, he looked at me, and I carried on what would come first the toes or my feet, then my toes! The doctor said what are you saying.......I explaind well I just want to know when you grow a new leg, does it hurt, do the toes show first of the foot then the leg.
He told me he didn't find it funny.......then I popped and said I did not it funny telling me I would be 100 per cent fit either.
You have to keep fighting, I know it is hard for you.
I won my case at that time. I got worse as you all know.

Oh Anne,
I am so sorry to hear that you have been turned down for DLA ':('
there is no justification for what they are doing...and I am angry for you ':x x
I know it is disheartening and who would you blame you for not having the energy to take it to appeal '' but if we don't fight these decisions the same will just keep on happening to the next and the next...
All I can say is don't let them grind you down....maybe the medical assessment will help you with your appeal...I hope so. Iris x0 -
I wish there was something we could do. Multiple voices are better than one but, what I don't know.
It will be interesting if I manage to get a hold of the medical to see what it says.
The moral of the story is if you work, save for a rainy day, don't claim benefits, be honest and anything happens to you, you get nothing. If you are a shyster and know how to work the system the world is your oyster!

I was turned down the first time for DLA, and a friend of mine, who fills these forms in for a living at CAB said, put everything down as if it was your worse day. If your worse day means you don’t get out of bed then you can’t walk 100 yards. If on your worse day you need help washing and dressing then put that on the form. It’s no good doing what you think is ‘Right’ because all the people at the other end do is tick or cross each answer and give you points for each ticked answer. So judge yourself harshly and say what happens on your worse day. Remember to also make sure that you have your GP and consultant backing you. Tell them you are applying for DLA. Oh and another thing, they try to trick the way you answer the questions by repeating the same question in a different format to fool you! So go slowly when you fill out the next one. There is a question on the form about what you would like to do if you were able, as an ex-dance teacher I said to dance again on the first form, NOT the right sort of answer, but on the second one I put down to drive myself to church. The answer allows you religious freedom! Crafty!
Hope it goes well, don’t give up.

Thanks for all your kind words and support. I have decided i am not letting the B******S grind me down, I have phoned to say I am appealing again, requested copies of medicals etc. don't think I will get it but I will try. Once I have everything I will go to CAB and get them to help me.
Really don't need this at the moment but i am determined.
Thanks again.

Hi Anne, I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties with DLA. You should def go to an advice bureau to get help with your appeal, they do it all the time and know exactly what to say. As far as I am aware, you have to answer everything as you are on your worst possible day - so if you have days you can't walk, get out of bed, dress yourself, etc. you must say that even if it is only sometimes. I know someone who got a social services advisor to help fill in the form so maybe go to your council if it doesn' work out with CAB. Good luck and don't give in!
