Hi .. Just like to say hello to everyone I am new to the forum ...

I wondered if anyone else gets this ... I have terrible pain in my left pelvic hip bone .. to painful to lye on .. it has flared quite badly past couple of weeks again, it is not the ball and socket joint, its the actual pelvic bone, it is painful to touch as though it is bruised .. is this arthritis ? ... I do have arthritis in my spine . . Last year I had some physiotherapy for it and they thought it was bursits but I wondered if it could be arthritis ? Does arthritis spread to the pelvic bones ..…

    Hi Jenny,

Welcome to the site they really are an incredible lot. I wonder have they done xrays etc on you? I think you need someone like Nearly for this but I also have oa in the spine and early onset (now probably a bit more advanced) in the hip and its sort of simular. I hope what ever it is it soon backs off for you. Take care Cris

Hi Chris ... thanks for the welcome .. I dithered for days on whether to join or not .. not really knowing where to start, “do I tell my story or just ask individual questions" …

I have had plain x-rays on my spine and hips they show spondylosos throughout my spine it was worse in the thoracic areas but it is also very bad in the lumber regions making it difficult to sit for more than a few minutes .... I had x-rays on my knees quite some years ago 15years or more, and the orthopaedic doctor then told me that by the time it shows on plain film it is pretty much far gone …have you heard this ? …. Also what I wonder why is it called arthritis, and spondylosis why the different names … I also have fibromyalgia .. Different meds seem to make this worse …

Any help advice on treatment options and test would be appreciated

    Thanks jenny

    Hi Jenny
    Welcome from me too!
You did the right thing joining :)
Bursitis is usually behind the hip bone it does feel like bruised (by a horses kick!).
A cortisone jab can help and also can help with the diagnosis.
    Take care

    Hi Jenny,

There honestly is no right or wrong way to post with in the AC rules though of course. If you want to tell about you then do otherwise individual questions are fine. Its what ever you would like to do.

I don't know why they call it different names or why there are 2 types of spondy, hey maybe its just to confuse us  I have had problems with my knees but thankfully they are very slow moving but like you my back wasn't and they did say with my neck it was too far gone to do much with. The pain clinic now help me considerably now a days.

I don't know much about hips, except they hurt but there are some people here who bless them have had THR's and I hope they can help you on that one.

I do think maybe you need to see your gp again and have a good chat to help get everything clarified better for you. If you do sometimes its a good idea to make a list so you remember everything.

If you ring the helplines (number at the top of the page) they are amazingly good and nice.

One things for certain you have come to the right place for help, answers and support :D Cris x

Hello, I hope that you enjoy using the site and find it helpful. I'm sorry that you've got pain, its hard to tell what it is isn't it and as for all the names! I think doctors like to have their own language so that no one else can understand them! Maybe, if it carries on worrying you and stopping you sleeping you should go and have a word with your GP? Its better to be safe than sorry!

    Hi
I have a inflammatory arthritis (not sure which type yet - but am being treated for as he thinks it is more than likely Ankylosing Spondilitis).
I get terrible pain in lower back, groin and top of bum cheek only on the left side.
When they did mri and scan it showed inflammation in the sacroiliac joint which is where the very lower part of the back enters the pelvis.
I know when I get a flare up I can barely walk and even to touch anywhere near my pelvis can be excruciating.
Also, when I get pain in the pelvis area my consultant told me that it can be referred pain from the back as when the back gets inflammed it can touch nerves which send pain signals down hip, leg etc.

Hi bailey .. this is what is happening to me I have the most tender areas around lumber regions and my back will "go" so to speak, it happens often, you don't have to do anything it happens even doing the slightest movement its not as though you have tried to lift anything heavy,

you feel like a little tear inside like you have ripped something and then omg! .. I cant move the pain is to much, I am off my feet for at least two/three weeks I need help getting up and down and then I need crutches and then a walking stick it is a very slow progression to get back to a decent level of mobility, it’s vicious circle ...

I have never had any mri scans all of my diagnoses have been on pain x-rays for the arthritis they say it shows up so it must be bad .... I have pain all of the time ... i despair the frustrations ...

Hi Toni .. I think I may try the injection as the pain is acute and to tender to lye on ... it is not as though I have worked the joint to deserve the inflammation … the physio last year said bursitis and tried ultrasound waves, this felt sickly the deep pain inside .. i do not know what i have done to get so many problems ..... the arthritis in my spine is bad enough to put up with I have it in my knees too but thankfully they are not to bad at present time ...... i also have heart problems, but not to discuss that hear .....

    Hello Jenny

Welcome to the site. I hope you find some answers to your questions or at least knowledge in the fact that you are not pestering your gp or consultant to find out more. You need to know what is happening to you and what you should expect.

The pain you describes what my friend experienced when she fell and cracked her pelvis. Took about 6 weeks to get better. All she had was pain killers.

I have spondilitis of the neck and upper back, bursitis of my left hip (diagnosed) but similar discomfort in my right hip now. That is totally diff from what you have, which sounds very uncomfortable. I think you need to see your consultant ASAP or GP. I do hope you get some relief soon.

    HI jenny
Yes you can get Arthritis in the pelvis bone I was diagnosed with OA in both hips and my pelvis bone last January when my gp told me I had in my pelvis bone I was really worried as you can replace other joints but you cant replace the pelvis bone. Up to now I havent had any pain there (fingers crossed it stays that way).
    Take care

Sounds very similar to what you get. Quite often I'll be absolutely fine with no problems at all, but sometimes I'll wake up and wont be able to move as I feel my back just wont bend at all, the pain is excruciating and feels like it is being forced the worng way. Recently I have also been getting cramps in the large muscles of my back when I try to twist, although this is in the top of my back my gp told me it was because the lower back is so tight and stiff that it can cause problems elsewhere.

Hi denise nice to meet you .. i seem to have arthritis in so much of my body .. i get confused as to what they think is going on really ... arthritis has shown on the xrays ... but they also say bursitis .. i am trying not to agravate it, and hoping it settles ... as to much movement will make it excrutiating and then i will not be able to move ... and i don't want thet to happen ... i hope you continue to be pain free in your pelvic areas ... jenny ..

    Hi Jenny
Years ago I was dancing at my sons 18 Birthday when I did something to my hip I went to my gp who sent me to hospital they said it was a burser, my gp said it wasnt and he rang them and sent me back for a x ray, anyway long and short of it all was it wasnt a burser, but I didnt have OA in my hips at that time only in my lower spine. It seems to me that you can get one doctor that says one thing and then another who says exactly the opposite, my point being that we really do need to have the tests to find out exactly what our problems are, be it blood tests or x rays.
I know for a fact (x rays done and confirmed) that I do have OA in my Lower back, Neck, Both Hips and Pelvis bone, knees. I think (no tests to confirm) that I have OA in my jaw, shoulder, Ankles.

Hi Denise . have you ever been offered a scan MRI or CT to help with diagnoses in any of your joins ... I hear MRI talked about here and there but I have never been offered one ... and wonder why some do and some do not get them ?....

I went to a pain clinic and I heard CT mentioned but it never came to it .. they said to me they only show us what we already know ! ... do you have any views on this subject ...?

    Hi Jenny
I first got OA when I was 38 (16 years ago) I didnt know at the time that worn discs meant OA. anyway after all the tests they could think of they eventually sent me for a MRI scan but it didnt show anything up so I eventually had what I think was called a discopathy or some such name, they put a needle with a camera on into your spine to look at the discs so they can see exactly what is happening thats when they found out my problem, following this I went to the pain clinic because there was no treatment for me as it wasnt bad enough to operate on, at the pain clinic they gave me a tens machine which was fantastic for my back pain much better than taking all these pain killers.
All the tests they did took them 2 years to diagnose my problem nowadays you just have a x ray and they tell you that you have OA or a blood test to see if its RA.
    Take care
