Good luck with it! I have had Type 1 diabetes since I was 4 and developed juvenile idiopathic arthritis aged 14. I'm nearly 34 now.

It's a difficult combination of conditions as steroids are very, very bad for diabetes. I had intravenous methylprednisolone in hospital a few years ago. Rheumatologists know nothing about diabetes and the advice they gave me on my insulin doses turned out to be totally wrong, and thus I developed proliferative diabetic retinopathy (eye disease) which took 4 years to resolve.

Not to scare you or anything, but if you do end up with both conditions make sure your rheumatologust isn't as clueless as mine were - and get advice from an endocrinologist for any steroid treatment. Even joint injections make things go haywire.
