Bruised Fingers?

Hi,
Does anyone know what causes bruised fingers on the underneath side of hand? I had a small black bruise yesterday, felt painful, now I've woke up and the whole of my third finger, right hand is blue and feels painful.
I can remember my mum used to get this on two or three fingers at a time but I dont think she ever found out what caused it. I used to think that maybe she'd done too much gardening or something, but I haven't done anything to cause it.
It is a circulation thing or what ? Anyone get it, or had it before?

morning Val, and thanks for reply. How are you today?
I dont really take any meds only ibuprofen for hip, dont have RA (thankfully), so have no idea what its all about. If it dont get better I will pop to dr. Getting a tad fed up with waking up and finding yet another thing wrong! (but aint we all??)

Not sure if its the same thing but Jenzie had a similar problem. Funny dark bruising came up on her hand.It was somwhere on the LWA thread a few months back.I will have a quick look and bump it up but new hub is going to be set up today so might be offline for a time.

Sorry couldnt find it.Had a look back to Nov.There was one about hands on 16th March but couldnt get that thread to come up and I am sure it was before that date anyway....
Maybe you could post this on the LWA thread. It would get a more relevant response I am sure....as it is a medical question.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for looking for me, yes you're right, I probably would've been better posting on LWA thread, trust me  but thanks for trying.

Hi Barbara, how are you, hope you're good today. I'll prob leave it till it goes away on its own, first time I've had it, but if I get it again then will get it checked out. Know what you mean about drs, I tend to leave things till I've got 2 or 3 things wrong, then when I go feel like a hypochondriac (spelling?).
At least the suns out here now, was going out but back was bad when I got up as well. Oh well, things may get better as the day goes on.
    Catch you later, Jay x

    Hi Jay

Not sure if this is same thing but I get this quiet alot. In my case it is an occupational hazard from work. Sounds awful but it could be a burst blood vessel? They are initially quite painful and do come up with a vivid bruise but generally clear up very quickly often overnight. You said your right hand I think. Are you right handed? I can often do it simply unscrewing a lid from a jar or anything where you are gripping perhaps a little too hard without realising it. Just thought I'd mention this incase it sounds similar but do please get it checked out with your doc, if you are still worried though.
    take care

    Hi Jay

I would get it checked by your doctor or Rheummy. You never know what is in the drugs you do take and it seems as if it could be a blood thinners

Have you taken Asprin at all as this is a blood thinner.

Get it check though won't you?

    Hi Chris, thanks for reply.
Yes I am right handed, and someone at work mentioned today about a burst blood vessel, but I dont recall having done anything. I was fine in the morning, then got to work and felt a pain, looked and there was a small purple bruise, when I woke up, whole underneath side of finger was blue/purple. NOW tonight, its spreading up round the top side of finger and is very stiff :? feels like its been hit with a hammer! But if no better tomorrow, will get it checked out (after I've been to dentist to have crown fitted, which I dont think he'll do cos I think I now have an abscess, in a lot of pain with tooth and side of face for last few days).
Absolutely fed up with it all now. Still, look on the bright side, it all takes the concentration away from hip pain. :?
    Take care, Jay x

Hi Trish, Hope you are feeling well today.

thanks for your reply. I dont take any meds or blood thinners, just ibuprofen for hip pain. I'll get it looked at if no better tomorrow. My mum used to get it, but never got it checked out, she did suffer from bad circulation (amongst other things bless her), so maybe its just that. But it certainly dont feel right, weird. I dont know what hurts the most at the minute, hip, tooth, finger or ears, just fed up with it all.
Sorry for being such a misery, but you know how it is?
    Speak soon, Jay x :)

    Hi Jay

Yes I do know only too well. Gets to a stage where you run out of hands and where to rub.

I do hope it gets better quickly though.

May be you did something and burst some blood vessels but best to check.

    Hi Jay
Just poppin back to check on you. It does sound like the same problem as me. I think some people are susceptible to this, no idea why it happens or when but I can do it just using a door handle and don't realise until a bit later. :? It can feel a bit worse as it repairs itself and the bruising comes out. I'm guessing it's your 3rd finger and may be a bit numb at the end or tingly as the circulation improves again?
Sorry the other aches competing at the moment. Do see your doc, if the finger no better tomorrow as I may be way off the mark here, but this is certainly my experience and if you have done the same they do heal pretty quickly.

    Hi
I think it is small blood vessels which burst, I have them all the time but you need to talk to your gp/rheumy about them just to make sure

    Hi Lynn, Chris and David,
thanks for that. Its about the same today (purple wise), but not so stiff, so will give it couple of days and I'm sure it will be gone. Thanks for everyones advice and comments, much appreciated. Just need to get abscess in tooth sorted now, then hopefully will be able to get rid of temporary crown and have 'real' one put in. what a palaver eh.
