White-tailed sea eagle seen in the humber estuary!

HI all,

just thought i'd add to the odd bird sightings recently by letting you know that there has been a white-tailed sea eagle around the Humber this week. Has a wing span of 8 foot & a head the size of a whole crow :shock: :shock: :shock:

First seen at Tophill Low nature reserve (where the black-headed gulls and a marsh harrier mobbed it and sent it on it's way :shock:

) and then at RSPB Blacktoft sands.

hubby is sick that he was at work and not got to see it :roll:

Hi wonkylegs, I saw a pair of Sea Eagles on the wing just a few feet away from where I was on top of a cliff on the Isle of Skye a few years ago..been looking for them most years since, but haven't seen them there again. They were a heart stopping sight, soaring on the up-currents. It was a bit like one of those films where someone stands on a ledge, and then a helicopter suddenly appears from below!!! Also I have been just a few feet away from a golden eagle. It was just sitting on a fence post. It took off when I got near, but let me get really close to it. Funnily enough it wasn't in the Highlands, but in the hills at the back of Dunoon on the river Clyde

HI Jean,

they really are amazing aren't they? You have had much better experiences than we have ...... I'm green with envy! We have seen them in scotland but only from a distance, and also in a rescue centre ... but that's not the same as seeing them flying.

We'll be scanning the skies as we walk anywhere just to see if we can see it ....... so majestic it really takes your breath away seeing them so graceful in the sky.

Hubby has seen more than me .... but we did both get to fly a European Eagle Owl when we visited a Raptor Centre in CUmbria a couple of years ago - magical

I've just found out about ospreys, and now I've got to research sea eagles :!: Wow, an 8ft wing span is quite something.

But it chose a good place to stop off, didn't it?

we get a great number of 'visitors' cos of the good variety of habitats .... as you say ... there's nowhere quite like Yorkshire
