Hi
Just for information ...
Just read an interesting article in the Mail on Sunday about the ballet dancer, Wayne Sleep, who had a ceramic hip replacement in early January and, 12 weeks later, is back dancing and just about to open in a new show... He has done a lot of work in the gym, post-op, though, stengthening his muscles..
You can probably read it on-line if you don't get this newspaper (I keep saying I will cancel this newspaper, but then something interesting comes up in its health section and I decide to continue getting it!!!)

Hi Marion, I want to know more ...
I have one THR and the muscles/ligaments never totally recovered I would need a pulley to lift my leg into ballet postions!! So he isn't following the no twisting, no bending more than 90 degree rules etc
I definitely want to know more.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Speedalong
I thought you would be interested!
He says he kept strictly to his consultant's advice about restrictions to certain movements for the first 12 weeks and, with his consultant's permission, then started trying out jumps, etc, and found he could do them...
No doubt it was extremely helpful that he was so flexible before hand!!
My 80 year old neighbour showed me how good her hip joints are recently by raising her legs high up on the garden fence! It really amused me, as when I came through an airport (Berlin) just before Christmas , the airport official asked me to put my foot on a little plastic stool so that she could run the 'paddle' over me. and I had to tell her that I just couldn't do it, but she grasped me (very very)firmly round the arm and waist and I managed to lift my foot about 6 inches !
Best wishes

My boss will probably imagine me doing the same at 12 weeks - leading the children's morning warm up to music complete with high kicks and turns!!
Good though to know success stories ... my last THR is pain free - this time I'm hoping for pain free and better movement!!!

Hi Speedalong
Yes, muscles are so important ... when I was diagnosed with rapid onset RA 2 years ago I couldn't walk for a while, and it was frightening how quickly the muscles which supported my knees 'wasted' ... that's why I am so determined to keep mobile after I have my THR on 5th May.
Which reminds me - I am just going to take the dogs out for a short walk.. well, they walk, I shuffle/stagger/limp -I'm like a geriatric tortoise - but hopefully not for much longer!!!..
Best wishes

Hi Marion and I must take S out to buy his Radio Times ... we used to walk from home to shops and back again ... with a few games of chase along the way. Now we drive to the shop and I get my exercise walking (limping with a crutch) across the car park .... luckily you and I both will back to normal soon. You will be just a week ahead of me in your recovery. By Autumn your dogs and my S - will be the ones jogging to keep up!!

Hi Iris
Very funny - thank you.. I daren't admit to my family that I get that newspaper - they would disown me - but I do find the health and the financial sections quite good!
Hi Speedalong
Yes - I think it's quite an inspirational article. The physiotherapy/post-op exercises are obviously crucial .. perhaps I will renew my gym membership this summer!
Best wishes
