Hi everyone,

I have R A and take quinoric tabs plus co-dydromol, the co-dydramol make me very tired in the day time so now I take tramacet from my OH's prescription.

The thing is that they have changed my OH's medication and given him tramadol, I find these to strong for me, what I would like to know is does anyone know if I can get both the co-dydramol and tramacet on my own repeat prescription or will they only give one pain killer...thanks.

    I was concerned to read your message, in terms of taking someone else's prescription meds. I know it's tempting (and I am ashamed to say I have done it myself in the past) but it's a slippery - and quite possibly dangerous path to tread.

    From what you say you do not get on well with the Tramadol and your GP needs to know this. As to whether the GP will prescribe more than one painkiller - well only the GP can make that decision. But these are "serious" meds and by mixing and matching without discussion with your GP I don't think you will be doing yourself any favours.

    I agree with Tilly, this is a dangerous route to be taking. I realy think you MUST talk to your G.P and get a meds review and maybe sent to pain clinic.

    It's true, you really shouldn't be taking your OH's meds.. Please go see the doctor, tell them how things are, maybe they can change your current meds etc. or even refer you to a poison clinic, they're specialists and could probably help more than your GP.

    I agree with the rest of the posts......very dangerous to be taking someone elses medication....especially if you are mixing them.
    Please go and see your GP and tell her/him that you aren't getting on with the meds that were prescribed for you and see what suggestions come up

    We don't want to get Big Brother about this, and thank you for everyone posting so thoughtfully. Sharing medications can have real risks so it has to be stated that it's dangerous. If anyone is having problems managing their pain and want to talk about that then we at Helplines are always happy to listen. Getting through to people medically qualified to talk about the technical side will be vital, and forum support is a given. Take care and all the best.

    Thank you all for your concern but I really should have said that I was prescribed tramacet a couple of years ago but stopped getting my repeat prescription when my OH started to get it on his prescription, as there was no need for us both getting it.

    Now of course he doesn't get it anymore so I have made an appointment to see the doctor next week, its not that I take that many just when my flare- up's occur, actually I'm in the middle of one right now.

    Just wanted to say hello to you and to say l am so glad you have an appointment with your Doctor - l hope you get your medication sorted so it's back on your prescription.

    Just for once (and probably never again) Mr DD and me are sharing the same medication - diclofenac - but for very different needs. He has the very occasional bout of gout so they are there in case of need, I have the day-to-day bother of two sorts of arthritis but the diclo was added to my usual drugs (by my GP just last week) thanks to my pulling my right-side chest muscle.

    I am sorry to hear you are mid-flare and I hope that things ease soon. I also hope that your GP re-instates your prescription and that you won't be 'borrowing' any more of your OH's - it's not a good idea but I do understand why you did. I think that perhaps sometimes we get so used to the meds we forget the greater issues at stake. Familiarity can breed a 'blind eye' to risk. I wish you well. DD
