Knee giving way

Hi all,
My knees are sore and stiff and every so often, months apart, my left knee has given way. Today though, my knee gave way 3 times while at work. Once, I nearly toppled-very embarrassing!
Is this usual with RA?-still waiting for proper diagnosis.
Thanks,
Magenta x

Hi sorry to hear you are having trouble, I had this problem last year and also my knee locking, so much so that i had to use my hands to move my leg..it was a torn mensius, which i recently had a arthroscope..sounds like you may have torn your cartlidge in your knee..that is why it is giving you instability
I would ask your Dr to refer you for a MRI because mine didnt show on xray and it was a MRI that discovered it and I have since been diagonised with osteoarthritis as well0 -
I have OA in my knees and that's what they do. I have no cartlidge left at all in my left knee and it's just bone on bone. Get it looked at as if it's only a small tear or just a bit of stuff getting in the joint they can give it a good clean up and that helps a lot.

Hi again,
I don't know if it's OA, RA or something else. All I know is that my knees are getting worse (like other joints). Always symmetrical. My knees become very stiff and they get very swollen on the insides which becomes very tender to touch. I sometimes think that I'm going to have to fall before something gets done!
Thanks,

Hi Magenta, I have Osteo-porosis so what I have is in the Arther family. My knee's give way sporadically so I never know when it's going to happen so must be on my guard all the time.
My knee's as yours are tender to touch, so I think you need to go and see your GP while yours are like this so she/he can see them like they are and tell them about the knee's giving way and about your fears and hopefully they can help you. Hope you get this sorted soon and you feel better in your self and not in constent fear. Take care.0 -

Sorry to hear this is happening. Mine does it too. I had an arthoscopy a few years ago, it helped a bit. I use a stick when I go out as I'm scared of topling over in public. I think you need to mention it to your gp.0

Its a horrible feeling when that happens, mines is different though. Mine does that at least 3-4 times a week nearly fell over the other day (and ive had a knee replacment) best go to your GP

Hi Eileen,
Mine do it too and am just waiting for an x-ray. You should try and get the gp to look at it... It sounds like there is something mechanical going wrong there flower.
Hang in there and leaving tea and a ((((( ))))) Love Cris xx0 -
Hi everyone,
THanks for all the replies-looks like alot of you have the same thing going on. I've made an appointment with my GP but not until the 28th May. I'm going primarily for my wrists which are really causing me no end of trouble. The knees are bad. It's my left that's the worst. I've been building a bed (I know, I shouldn't have but needs must) and when I knelt on the floor it was really painful. It feels all spongy now and sore. I'll mention it to the dr.
Hope everyone well,

Are you hypermobile? I am and my knees give way loads. I was generally fine, bar my ankles, until I was 22. But the last year has been bad in terms of my knee giving way.
It's coincided with a worsening of my fibro and potential development of some form of Arthur.
