Barbara, glad all went well for your son. Hope it isn't too long before he gets home.

Joan, hope your exercises aren't too difficult.

Glad you had a lovely time at the wedding do Marrianne.

Mig, glad you enjoyed the meal with your sister. That's quite a saving with V*rg*n. Well done.

Kath it is difficult at times contacting the service providers. I'm sure they have a list of questions in front of them and ask them even after they've got the answers.

Toady my dining table is upstairs in the spare bedroom with boxes on it and the chairs are in the loft with things on them.

I didn't get on the internet yesterday and am only posting a little tonight. On Sunday, while I was painting, I started getting flashing lights all over my line of sight. I sat down for a while thinking it was to do with me climbing up and down to paint the top of the wall. After they twinkly lights stopped, I was getting what looked like a flash of lightning down one side whenever I blinked or moved my eyes. I went to the opticians on Monday morning. After an hour of tests, he gave me a letter and told me to go straight to the hospital because he had seen a shadow on the back of my eye which could have been the retina becoming unattached.

I spent 3 hours at the hospital, only saw the nurse and was told the eye doctor wasn't there and to go back later. My son took me and we were there for over 5 hours. I lost count of the number of eye drops I was given to anaesthetise them and to dilate my pupils. Eventually the eye doctor spent quite a while looking inside my eyes. He said there was nothing serious. The gel in my eye had suddenly shrunk. Apparently quite common 'with the passage of time'. I still have the lightening and my pupils are still dilated so the light hurts and my eyes are a bit blurry. Hopefully ok by tomorrow.

Hello to anyone I haven't mentioned. Hope you are having a good week.

Evening everyone. Barbara, Toady, Mig, Applerose, Joan, Elizabeth, Marrianne - I think that's about everyone.

Barbara, glad to hear your son's op went well. I suppose that's the best you can hope for at this stage. Hope he continues to improve.

applerose, my goodness, what a worry. Thank goodness it all turned out well in the end.

marrianne, I hope your shoulder isn't hurting as much today. Can't wait to hear your pickled cabbage saga.

With the help of OH, we managed to strip the beds today - it's a job that always hurts our backs and as my fingers are painful at the moment - to say nothing of my elbow, I was glad to get it out of the way. So we are sleeping in nice fresh bedding tonight. That makes us sound like mucky pups, but it doesn't take long in warm weather to make sheets etc feel grubby. We have single beds, electric ones that you can raise and lower the head and foot. I manage to keep a little cooler than when we shared a double.

    Take care

Internet has been off most of the day as daughter was fitting the new box and the hub ! why virgin can't send an engineer to fit up grades I don't know.So we are up and running again, the only drawback with the tivo box is it doesn't do interactive like the other box did ,to me this is something that should be in the advert,so hubby is having a big sulk because he used it all the time,he can get the same thing on his iPad but he's still having a mardy.
Going to town tomorrow with daughter having the lunch we missed a few weeks ago. Mig

Ps Barbara so pleased your son is doing so well.

sorry been sleeping and today I went to get my hair cut and coloured as it was a mess. Just got back and now waiting for my Son to come home from respite club.

anyway the weekend was fantastic. I got to sit out in the garden and chat with Charlie and she made a delicous cake. On Sunday my younger boy went kayaking and boating with a special needs club and he seemed to enjoy himself. He is at home in the water and apparently he tipped his kayak upside down and got soaked (luckily I sent in spare clothes).

Then I got to talk to a neighbour about the noisy neighbours and he said he'd called the police about the noise and they'd been out to help. So I told him if he wants support to contact us and we'll all complain to the police. Apparently the last party the parents were away leaving a neighbour 'in charge'.

Finally I have been invited to a girlies night on saturday just round the corner. I very rarely go out and I'm close enough to home if anything goes wrong and I'm so looking forward to it. Honestly last time out in the evening without the children was last July!

Anyway I posted before Iread back so going to check all is well. Hope Barbara's Son is okay and Bubbles has better news about her Mum

Thanks Marrianne. My eyes are still a tiny bit blurry and still have the dots and wavy lines and the odd lightning bolt but I'm fine now really. Went in to work today and, as I wasn't going to my boss's mum's, I worked a bit longer to make my hours up a bit. I don't get paid for being ill. My boss didn't seem to notice but his wife asked why I was still there. When I told her, she said 'but you've been ill.' At least she noticed. Pickled cabbage and purple walls? I've just painted a wall in my bedroom. I thought it would be a dusky pink but it is actually a bit purple. Hope you only did the really important ironing. As you say, the rest can wait. Just read your next post about the picked cabbage. Ooops, bet that was quite a mess. Hope it didn't take too much to clear up.

Barbara, that's good news about your son. I'm sure he will get home tomorrow. Better an extra night to make sure all is well. Did you get any information on your ultrasound or do you have to wait for the results?

Kath, changing the bedding is a chore for anyone, never mind if you have a lot of pain. At least it's done now. It's lovely sleeping in fresh sheets. Don't think I could sleep in a bed with someone now. I get way too warm on my own.

Mig, glad you've got your internet back. I've got tivo. It does what I want from it but I'd be unhappy if it was worse than the last one I had. Enjoy lunch with your daughter tomorrow.

Elizabeth, your hair is looking lovely. Nice to get a little pampering. Sounds as if your son had a lovely time too. At last, something might be done about your noisy neighbours. have a great time at the girlies night. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed you don't get disturbed.

Well it is nice to come in & see good news for the most part :) apart from applerose & your eye symptoms, I did have something similar once but mine was diagnosed as 'ocular migraine' (lights without headache) and it wasn't very nice, but had it a few times & never since so who knows. I hope yours gradually just goes & doesn't return, did you get any advice to help minimise the likelihood of symptoms.. ? Thank you for your dining table story, excellent  you have all cheered me up not having a perfect hostess-style dining room. Maybe one day, although the dining room is earmarked for an e**y packing room/workroom so I'm not sure if much dining will ever go on in it.

Barbara I read earlier that your son is on the ward & you have seen him :) , was quite surprised he might come home so soon but since reading your later post, tomorrow at soonest sounds sensible. Glad you could fit in your own appt without too much hoohah but I expect that was quite tiring enough going to the 2 hospitals. Hope you can rest up enough for when son is at home & that your ultrasound results are in soon. Will keep up with news as it comes in. :)

Lovely to read about your weekend TK, with all the nice family stuff, & especially the helpful noisy-neighbours developments, that's so good if you can get a general anti-noise thing going against the 'offenders'; so much better than being the only one it bothers & I hope it has an effect for you. :) And a haircut, fantastic. :D

Marrianne your posts are so cheery  most of my gadgets are just improvised things (nutcrackers to get milk screwtops off if needed etc) but I can see how some of them could lead to more harm than good, trust it to be something as violently coloured as pickled cabbage :o , it couldn't be a jar of something pale, oh, no. :? My sheets will be on for a couple more days too mind you I don't feel the heat & have still got flannelette on  so to me it doesn't feel hot enough yet to need constant changes.

Kath, hello, I hope your fingers & elbow are less 'gyp-y'.

No joan today, hope she is ok-ish. :)

Glad you've got your internet back mig, seem to be a few here that have frequent connection problems (though yours was owing to genuine reasons), will have to appreciate mine a bit more I don't seem to have too much trouble.

My best bit of news is a long story re the cat (what else) which resulted in a baby bird being saved & released outside, against the odds, so I am a toady with a happy ending to report. Lovely. :)

See you all soon, tea & a bit more internet for me, sleep well all. xx

Speaking of tea thank you for the kettle barbara :) , I was writing while you were posting and then my net connection dropped out so it took a while - serves me right for boasting mine is usually good.

Toady, the only advice I got about my eyes was to keep an eye out (sorry  ) for the flashing light getting worse or bits of my eyesight going. It might never happen but, if it does, to go straight to A&E. Glad the baby bird is safe and well. I found a tiny baby with no feathers outside my front door. Poor thing must have fallen or got nudged out of the nest. There are sparrows nesting in the roof.

Hope you are all ok Joan and enjoying some lovely weather.

Barbara my dining table used to be used every Boxing Day as the whole family used to come to mine. When mum became ill, we started going there so my table wasn't used. I keep it just in case I entertain. Well you never know. It sounds as if your son is well on the road to recovery. I'm sure he'll be home tomorrow but not before they think he's ready.

Well my 12 year-old niece is all geared up to have her head shaved in about 4 weeks. She's already raised about £600 and is aiming for £1000. The money will be used to buy things like dvds and toys for the children on the cancer ward at Newcastle hospital to keep them occupied. Her hair is down to her waist so she will send it away to be made in to wigs for cancer patients. If any of you would like to donate, you can on Paypal using the address eggcup65@hotmail.com . I'll see if I can post a picture of her.
