Barbara, he had the steak yesterday apparently and wanted fish fingers tonight. He said he didn't know how to cook them so his nonna had to come down to do them for him. How difficult is it to read the instructions on the packet? :? She also put enough veg on the table for the whole family with 12 fish fingers. I know 18 year olds eat a lot but ............. Came home at lunch time and tea time to find a bit more of my door scattered on the floor. I'm thinking of putting an armchair in front of the door and going out through the back door. Just worried she starts on that. She hasn't touched anything else. I thought it was hot enough in here yesterday at 24 degrees but 26? Phew. There was actually a slightly chilly breeze blowing at 8pm when we went walkies. Hope you enjoyed your coffee. Did you manage a cake too?

700 people Mig. That's brilliant. Don't think I've got even 100. Can't remember how far back I've got.

Kath, I feel for you. Not surprised you're fed up.

Glad your mouth is starting to feel better now Joan.

It was in the news yesterday that a 20 year old man had jumped in to the river, in the next town, to swim but got in to difficulties. They only just found his body earlier today. My niece and her friends knew him. Why do they always think it is safe in the rivers, especially as this has happened quite a few times.

Hope everyone not here is doing ok.

Hello Barbara, Christine, Joan, mig, Toni, Toady, Elizabeth and whoever else pops in.

For some reason I had a slightly better night last night, even though I woke up at about 2am completely drenched with sweat. Even my neck was wet through and I can't blame it on my hair now, can I.

Joan, it's good to hear your mouth is getting better. Hope your appointment comes soon.

Oh Christine, how sad. We live near the River Trent, River Derwent and Erewash Canal. A different problem but they are always finding people in the canal. Usually fallen in drunk then drowned, or deliberately jumped in. Awful, and it always seems to be dog walkers that find them :o Glad I don't have a dog.

Barbara, I've already tried anti fungal cream as the is one of the things I thought of when it first started. Sadly it didn't work and my GP says it's definitely not fungal anyway. And I'm already on double dose of anti histamines. :?

The 'pop' man came today. OH loves his pop, and we have a delivery every week. Only he never came last week so OH had to drink juice (which he's not keen on) instead. He's happy this week though, he has five bottles to get through (1 litre) over the week.

Hope all are feeling reasonably well and ready for the school hols. Our local schools broke up yesterday.

Barbara, my GC don't tend to come here as there's nothing for them to do now they're older. Wasn't so bad when they were younger. Now they want to be with their friends. Glad you enjoyed your strawberries. It looks like mine are about finished.

Glad you slept better last night Kath. I leave my window open a little and have a summer duvet on and still get way too hot. Just washed the bedding but think I'll just use the cover tonight without the duvet.

The 18 year old needed his nonna to make his porridge for him this morning. I think he might starve when he goes away to uni. On Wednesday morning when I went in to work, I opened the window in the utility room then went to do something. When I came back, I noticed there was a big pile of the 18 year old's clothes from when he was travelling round Europe for 3 weeks. There was a terrible smell so I couldn't wait to get the clothes washed. Anyway, that night, on the news, they said there had been a chemical leak about 8 miles away and the smell was all over the county. It was that I was smelling, not the clothes.

Today before I went out, I turned the pouffe on it's side and pushed it up against the door then pushed the settee against it hoping that would keep the dog away from the door. It almost worked. She still managed to get a paw round to dig a little bit more off the door. She's been very reluctant to walk through the park so tonight I took her round the streets. She seemed much happier with that. 1 week down, 1 to go.

Hello all, hope you're finding somewhere cool to chill off.
well, I'm sitting at my PC with the window wide open and the big electric fan on. Lovely. Any more pop left? Although right now, a chilled, sparkling water would do.

Christine, I know this is too much information, but I sleep in the nuddy with no covers on top, window open and my little electric fan on. Don't tell anyone. :?

Did anyone watch the Post Office Penguins last night? All that ice and snow, the post office ladies who work there through the summer looked as though they really enjoyed their job.

Toady, it's a tad cooler here today. Hope it is where you are and you feel more organised.

Sounds very hot still with you Barbara. A bit cooler here. Thank goodness. Only 22 both in and out. Hope they didn't touch your car. My son's dog is a girl. My daughter is coming on Thursday or Friday next week and they'll be bringing their dog who is a boy. He's getting on a bit and can't be bothered with being pestered so I might have to take my son's dog home the night before. She'll only be on her own overnight as my son is home on Friday. The neighbour will pop in to let her in to the garden first thing and give her her breakfast.

Kath, I only wear jammas in winter or if I have visitors. The duvet cover on its own worked for me last night. Don't feel right if I don't have something over me. I watched a little bit of the penguins programme while I was busy with something else. I couldn't work out why there was a post office there. Was there a village? And was it the post office workers who left or just people who were studying the penguins?

I'm doing a bit more sorting out. The charity van for the local hospice is coming on Tuesday. Hope they've got a big van. :o

I'm very disappointed with the coverage of the commonwealth games not up to the BBC standard, why on earth have they got those stupid mikes on ?

Hello all :) still hot but slowly catching up on myself. barbara is quite right, why can't it do something sensible between hot & cold? I mean I don't mind the heat, but not for doing anything in, just lazing around.. and that will not get me very far ahead.

I have been trying to juggle some e**y listings and some buying as well, & general chores & appointments (I tried to go to one a day early, I was literally 5 mins away from booking the taxi before I re-read the appt card again  ) - things have eased up now. I hope I haven't missed chips while I wasn't here. :( Those tatties are fantastic barbara. :D I will definitely have to try some now, you have spurred me on.

The dandelion & burdock took me back to a school trip, where I had some - never had tried it before - and sausage and chips. Which were also 'different' in the way that cafe food is to home food & what you are used to at that age. That was before sausages went off the menu for me.. I have had my usual grumble today as why so many things like puddings/yogurts/fools/mousses have gelatine in them, especially going down the online 'aisle' in t**co, so many things are off limits & it's very unfair. Not to mention unnecessary.

Anyway it seems everyone is coping more or less but could do with cooler days, applerose has got problems with the homesick doggy I see (poor thing :( ), and is doing bits of packing & cooking for the youth of today.. Frog has been clothes shopping with a lovely shop owner :D .. not so nice other side of the coin with the way the Indian gentleman was treated next door to the cafe barbara was in  . I can't see joan from the last few days so I hope she is alright and sue too.

Everyone seems to have their sleeping arrangements sorted and plans for emergencies.. mig has thought hers through very well by the sounds of it. If I had a fire I would have to get myself out pdq, to save the embarrassment of firemen seeing my house, let alone the state of me. I would be apologising for the mess even if it was going up in smoke at the time.

Hope you get lots of lovely space when your stuff has gone applerose. :D Expect you will be adding things til last minute on Tuesday. Glad to hear the lad in your street was ok, it was sad to read :( poor kids some have a tough time, I have a friend with a similar family next door and the lad can be trouble but as so often is the case, he would obviously be a good lad at heart, just has had not the best life.

I didn't see the Penguin programme but I hope it helped people feel a bit cooler. I do remember having ice pops and whatever those triangular sort of shaped ones were if anyone remembers what they were called. Must go and put something cold in my shopping 'trolley' & check out or they will be here at the rate I'm going. :?

    best to all xxxx

Barbara, I will miss the dog when she goes home but I won't miss the mess. Apart from my door, the floor is constantly covered in black hairs and paw prints. My DIL keeps their house spotless. Don't know how she manages it. I was off last Tuesday but couldn't really take any more time off. As my boss is away, I'm popping home at lunch time to check on her. That sounds like a great garden centre. It must be very popular.

Mig, it is too hot to cook. I've been having either frozen meals or sandwiches. I'm not much in to sport so am having problems finding things to watch on tv. Hope your friend recovers quickly.

Toni, I'm hoping that if the firemen come for me, I'll have time to grab my dressing gown from the door next to my bed. If not, he'll have to wrap his jacket round me and come back to my house later for it.

Went to dad's today. My sister set off half an hour before me but managed to arrive nearly 2 hours after me. Dad seemed to be getting a bit worried so he went to look in to my other sister's garden (next door) and she was sat sunbathing there. He wasn't very happy. He wants to go down to London where all the old Navy sailors are meeting up next March. My sisters were sat at the other end of the room whispering. I could hear that they were discussing going with him for the weekend. Never mentioned it to me. Not that I would want to go on a weekend away with them now anyway. Felt completely worn out on the way home so have just say all evening staring at the tv. Tomorrow, I think I'll take the dog on a nice long walk as long as it's not too hot then spend the rest of the day in the garden, doing not a lot.

    Hope everyone's not too hot.

Hi Toady, just missed you. I know what you mean about certain foods being off limits. I have a wheat intolerance. I can't believe how many things have wheat flour in them. Fortunately, I can now tolerate a tiny bit of flour now and again so it's a little easier. I've got all my charity stuff piled up in the dining room but, yes, I'm sure I will be adding more as I put it outside on Tuesday. I'm sure you're right about kids being good at heart. My son has had a few jobs (teacher and head as well as (can't remember his title) organising after school clubs for kids and courses for their parents. He often said the kids were good really. it was their parents who didn't care much about them and they wwere left to fend for themselves. Even the ones who'd been thrown out of school turned up at weekends to help him clean, paint and tidy up a building he was turning in to an alternative school for them. You've got me wondering about those triangular ice cones. I think we called them jubilees. That might have been the make.

Jubblies! Yes I still have them in my freezer Christine :)

I agree with your son, really very very few kids are 'bad' at their core it's just who they mix with.

I get lots of puss-cat hairs on my kitchen floor thanks to Daisycat, but I have to remove them daily I expect your DIL does too

Your sisters are a pair you know....such a shame and they had better (if they say they will) take your Dad on his trip else he might go on his own like that chap did to the Normandy events!

    Toady
I haven't seen Joan either :? I do hope she and Sue and Peppa are alright.

We had torrential rain for a bit last night about 7 so I am hoping it means it will be a bit fresher today. Sun is up already and it looks lovely :D Maybe today will be something sensible between hot and cold ;)

Good job you didn't get that taxi that would have been an expensive mistake not to mention frustrating! Lots of stuff has gelatine in it doesn't it? I know because I don't eat meat and of course it's made of animal products :(

You do make me laugh...apologising for the mess when your house is going up in smoke indeed!!!

I am hoping for a potter in the garden today maybe :)

    Love to you all

Hello cafe dwellers. I knew my comment would elicit some replies. First of all, I keep my knickers and nightie handy  and no Barbara, definitely no photos. :o

Christine, the post office workers were there as a lot of people go there just to see the penguins and have short holidays. They send post cards home, so the post office is necessary. Every day the post bags were taken to a boat which took it to the Falklands where it was sorted and posted on. Many were Japanese tourists. The post office workers left after the 'summer' season was over as there was nobody else there except the penguins. I don't think penguins send post cards.

Toady, I think you mean Jubblies. Nice and juicy but very messy. :D

I'm off to my respiratory clinic tomorrow. First time I've seen my consultant since April 2012 - no, actually that was my previous consultant who left to have a baby. I haven't actually seen this one. She didn't even come to me when I was in hospital with pseudomonas. :(

Sending hugs for all those who are missing, hope everyone is ok. xx

Toni, I think your downpour reached us this afternoon. I'd just finished a job in the garden around lunchtime when the heavens opened. At least the garden got a good watering. Hope you got in to yours today.

Barbara, I would love my own dog but I'm not at home enough to look after one. And I don't know what I'd do when I go to my daughter's. And now I'm thinking I don't want to be forever hoovering up hairs. My hoover only has a small container but it filled once when I hoovered upstairs and again downstairs. I only did it 2 days ago. I usually only hoover once a week and it only gets half full. There's a B&M in the next town. It's good for lots of things, isn't it?

Thanks for clearing that up Kath. I can't have seen much of the programme. Didn't realise that. Now that would be funny if the penguins sent letters. Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

Joan, hope you and Sue are doing ok.

Managed to cut down the buddleia in the back garden. It had a lot of thinish branches so was quite easy. It's still all in a big pile because it poured down before I could move it. Hope the recycle men take it on Tuesday. Took the dog for a walk in the park and she met 2 new friends but they wwere busy playing tug-o-war with a rope so, after a quick sniff, they ignored her. Don't think she was too bothered though.
