Mig, my cousin has been to see the poppies. She said it was a wonderful sight. I think it's a good idea to give the kids fruit but the ones round here wouldn't appreciate it. Glad your cold has cleared. Hope OH's x-ray shows the OA isn't too bad.

Joan, hope it went well for Sue at the physio and she is home soon. Hope you are ok.

Barbara, It's dad's birthday tomorrow so I will be popping up. He seems quite happy at the moment. Hope you GD and her friend enjoy the party tomorrow. Are they dressing up?

Kath, hope you get on ok with your new neighbours and the dog barking doesn't become a nuisance. My neighbours dog barked, howled and cried almost constantly.

Toady, I find the same when reading reviews. I always check the worst ones and end up not buying anything just in case. My body clock hasn't adjusted yet. Still waking up an hour early every day.

Elizabeth, I always have problems with my scanner. Often end up with a quarter of a picture on an A4 sheet of paper. Well if the council do look, they will find several lump sums of money which have been withdrawn so we will see what they say about that as my sister has power of attorney.

My daughter and her husband and the kids arrived this evening. Only staying till Monday as they need to get back to Fife to finish making their plans before setting off for Oz next week. :( Finally got some drops for my blurry eyes. Only used them this morning but they seem to be working.

Hello mig, toady, christine, barbara, Joan, Elizabeth, hope you are all reasonably well.

this morning I chatted to new neighbour, and met the dog. He is gorgeous, and very well behaved. He only barks if he hears a noise on the car park next to the house. We made friends with a lick on my hand, for such a huge dog (Japanese Akita) he is very gentle.

More good news, I took on board what the consultant said about my ears having wax, and have been using Te**o's wax remover. Although I haven't actually seen any wax come out, and I'm still a bit deaf in my right ear (thought the left was the problem) the echo and noises have stopped except for a slight whistle, so a great improvement there.

Feeling pretty good today, in spite of a productive cough, had second MTX last night. And I've been very good and donated to the Ebola Appeal.

Barbara, hope you enjoy the quiet, in spite of missing the company.

Christine, glad your dad seems happy at the moment, hope he decides he likes his new home.

Elizabeth, we use a free photo manipulator called IrfanView - non commercial, no nags, easy to use, and can rotate photos to the position you want.

Joan, hope it doesn't take long for the carers to set things up for Sue, so she can manage at home.

mig, I hope hubby's x-ray gives answers so treatment can be organised. We had cauliflower cheese today, with smoked salmon, mashed potato and fresh tomato. Love cauliflower cheese.

Lovely day here, got a line full of washing blowing in the sunshine.

So glad that Sue will be coming home once a hoist and a carer have been arranged.I do hope you don't have to wait too long and it all works out for you both Joan.

Think Mig said she was going to see the Poppies Friday (today).

Started itching again a few days back. The only difference was I took a few co- drydamol tablets a few days before for pain.I only take them on an ad-hoc basis and every other med is taken on a regular basis.

Ooh i wonder if things will come to light Applerose? I'm glad he seems happier.

I always read reviews and agree the mix you get can be confusing! OH managed to break the cheese toastie maker (handle snapped so not his fault) so ordered a cheap one quickly to replace it. Spin dryer will not be replaced even though it proved very useful.

I've managed to get pics on my PC but cannot get them to transfer to my friend so he can make a slideshow for our group even though he has given me great instructions. I got one old pic to transfer but not the recent ones.I forgot there was a thread on here so I'll take a look! thanks for reminding me MIG.

Thank you for making me laugh about the garden mishap Barbara. I wonder if that is his plan so I won't ask again! I should supervise I suppose but thought I'd made it loud and clear to leave my flowers alone!
My Lu is round her friends carving pumpkins, OH has gone to buy sweets, although we usually only get one group of L's friends popping round and the rest all go down the other side of the road and leave us alone. I won't allow her to go T & T knocking on strangers doors, rather frightens me, let alone scarring old and vulnerable people.
Hope the party goes well for the GD's Barbara. Parties are okay :D

Toady those heaters can cost a lot to run. We had no heating in our first home so had 2 plug ins; dimplex and one storage-look-alike-that-blew -out-hot-air. It was 30 years ago and the biggest bill ever (prices have now finally caught up).It was when charlie was new born. She had to be taken back to hospital as she was blue and I blame the lack of heating.

I love Who do you think you are and remember the Patrick Stewart episode. But they are all sad aren't they? Can't forget the Jeremy .Paxman episode or Natasha Kinsky/ David Baddiel.

The farmhouse would be perfect but really wrong time for schooling. I always said that would be my ideal place to live as it is not a through road with fields and cows behind. Jack has just started his a levels and Daniel school has been positive so far this year with a very caring form teacher. Mind you if new neighbours turn out to be loud music players I'll have to move regardless.

Kath glad your neighbours have turned out nice after all. I must tell OH about the ear wax remover as it seems to be working well for you. there was a rotate button as photo's came through but everytime I used it it did strange things to my laptop! sun is also shining here but no wind so hope they do dry.

Loving my lie-ins but 2 back to school on Monday.
fish cakes and fish fingers for tea.

GC have gone with mum and dad to visit grandad so thought I'd call in for a quiet cuppa. We've just been out trick or treating. The kids got a fair bit but lots of people had shut their curtains and didn't answer the door. Apparently 68% of people do that. Can't blame them. I think it's ok for the little ones but I don't like the teenagers coming round.

Joan, hope the carers don't take too long to get things sorted for Sue. It must be a worry for you.

Barbara, it is good to get your house back and the peace and quiet but I miss them when they go too. My son-in-law suggested that instead of travelling half way round the world and staying for a month, we should maybe all meet halfway to a holiday destination for a fortnight. That would work better for getting time off work.

Kath, that is good that the dog is friendly. My next door neighbour's dog was an attacker so I was very wary. There's another dog down the road which doesn't like people. Another round the corner is huge, more like a small horse, and he was a lovely dog. I've got my daughter's dog now for 6 months until he is allowed to travel to Australia. He's getting on a bit and is very quiet. Glad there has been an improvement to your ears.

Elizabeth, hope the itching clears quickly and doesn't flare up too badly again. The handle snapped off my toastie kaker but it was my fault. I tried to clip it shut while there was a huge sandwich in it. Does sound like the wrong time to move. Hopefully, the house will come back on the market later when you are ready for it. Hope you work out how to transfer the photos.

    Gosh

What a busy time you've all had!!

Joan - I am worried - its Sue ok?? I hope she is home very soon. You and the dogs must miss her so much :( ((((Sue and Joan))))

Elizabeth - I wonder whether the co-dydramol don't like you very much??? I hope you can get your pics sorted soon. Charley and Tia did pumpkins too!! I bet your Lucy's was lovely - they are harder than we think :? and a bit chilly too if I remember

KathT glad the new neighbour sounds nice and that the dog is gorgeous :)

I am very pleased to hear (no pun intended) that your ears are clearing. Well-done for donating to the Ebola appeal. I will do that next time the number comes up too :)

Barbara - I bet you do miss them when they've gone. I get so sad too when it's just Lucy myself and Paul, but we do adjust. Well-done them sorting out some rubbish! I do hope Bubbles is ok :?

Christine and Toady I read reviews. You can usually spot those who have an axe to grind can't you? Saved my step-daughter's bf from buying one of those paint-pod thingies this week.

    Christine
I hope your body-clock re-synchs soon ;) My sister lives in Fife!! Wow! Small world. Glad you saw them all anyway. I hope your Dad enjoyed his birthday and all is well.

Toady I hope the heater is ok. I prefer oil filled radiators for emergency use. Once they have heated up they stay warm for ages :) I have one of those electric sort too which chuck out a bright light, but don't give off a lot of heat which I use when I am in on my own and don't want to waste power.

mig - did you say hubby might have some OA? Oh dear - poor him, but possibly more so poor YOU!!

Lovely and sunny here today. Out tonight to a special Hallowe'en event for one of the girls who sadly passed away from the QE. It would have been her 19th birthday. Sure it will be great though to see everyone else and her mum and Dad too.

    Love to you all

The pictures are on.you have to hit the camera icon on facebook then open the file and highlight the pics you went to send across -something like that!

My back went last night and I couldn't stand up straight but luckily no trick or treaters at all. Mind you I always have to put the curtain across the door to try and lessen any noise for my son so we probably don't look inviting.

so went to bed at 11 and ate all the sweets with the kids

Take care have to go as battery about to run out

    Hello everyone,

I've noticed a few bad backs, so hope that doesn't last too long. Hope all are having quite a good weekend now that Halloween is over - Bonfire Night next, although we've been hearing a few fireworks already, and suppose that will continue for a while afterwards. I wonder how my new Akita friend will react to that. He is usually very quiet.

It was raining this morning, but the sun has come out now. :D

Hello all :) quiet here, few fireworks, no hallowe'en visitors, nothing to report.

    Have just been doing a virtual hallowe'en online fun quest thing - I'm not a sims-playing gamer, frog, I'm more a big bearded two-handed broadsword-wielding RPG-er. Excellent antidote to real-life feebleness. :D

Hope all are fairly well, barring Sue waiting on arrangements to get home, & someone mentioned dodgy backs.. and a cough.. and mig's OH's hip is not too good.. oh dear.

There certainly was lashings of rain in the night barbara, here anyway. Woke me up, especially with a little mystery tapping drip I have somewhere when it's really heavy & that I don't want to think about. Roof probably. :? What a shame about the cake, I'd have loved to see it too, if there is a pic. They certainly do say there will be a sudden cold drop next week. :? Can't imagine it right now but almost a drop of half in temps they say.

Thanks everyone I will be careful with the heater. I have had past experience of how expensive they can be, hopefully it will be on the absolute minimum to keep the chill off this one room, it really drops in there with no radiator. I do have an oil one elsewhere but it doesn't seem to do a huge amount - maybe mine just isn't a fantastic quality one. Even the smallest type would be too big for this room really, it does need to be tiny or it will be too near something, wherever you put it.

Glad you figured out your pics alright TK. I don't have a scanner so wouldn't know which end is up with using one. Should maybe get one, it would be useful. If you buy an all-in-one, and only used the scanner, does it still have to have ink installed for the printer bit? :? Hope the back to school tomorrow start goes okay. Those 3 words still make me shudder. Ugh.

Hope applerose is having a good visit with her daughter & family having arrived. Wonder if you will be able to sort out the half-point holiday sometime. Certainly more manageable-sounding. Fancy force-feeding your poor sandwich maker with more than it could get its jaws around.

Glad Kath's next-door-dog is quiet for the most part. Also glad the whistling seems to have stopped, and if you do hear any high-pitched whining, hopefully it is the dog and not you. Wouldn't mind some cauliflower cheese next time round. :)

Haven't achieved much the last few days abut am plodding on with my back 'office' renovations. Can't wait to get it organised now but a lot to do yet. Never did manage to get an item onto freecycle, which has held me up, so it's back to e**y. Cleaned a few windows outside too, the neighbours will think I must be moving.

Waiting to hear what barbara has bought.

Got a 'free' box of chocs with spending over £10 from milk delivery, so am passing them round to all comers.. keep warm all, love toady. xx

Toni, my son-in-law is from Kelty. All his family live there. My sisters went to see dad the day after his birthday and took sandwiches and cakes for him. They even sent a text to my brother asking if he could go. I think my dad would have been pleased to see them together. It must have been very emotional at the Halloween event. A good chance to remember the good times as well though.

Joan, Sue will be pleased to get back home. I'm sure you can manage the injection for her.

Barbara, what a shame your GD left the cake. It sounds really good. I'm sure she can find someone to eat it. Yesterday was lovely here too. We all met up with the kids in the park and they had a great time. Didn't even need coats. Did you get anything at the boot sale.

Elizabeth I know what it's like to hurt your back. How are you doing? Hope it's eased. Sounds as if you had a good time any way sharing the sweets.

Kath we've had fireworks going off here too for a few days. I'm dog sitting for 6 months for my daughter's dog. He's usually ok with them.

Oh Toady, I do hope your roof doesn't have a leak. I think it's such a performance getting someone out to fix things like that. Good for you getting the windows cleaned and getting on with the office. You can come and sort mine out when you're done.

Had a lovely time at the park yesterday with my son and his family and my daughter and her family. Then we went to an Indian restaurant for a meal. Today we went for a walk then to my son's for tea. My daughter is off back to her in-laws at lunch time tomorrow then setting off to Australia on Thursday stopping in Dubai for 3 days and Singapore for 6 days. I'm looking after the dog for 6 months as he's not allowed to go till then. He's a lovely dog and no bother at all.

Thank you Joan. We did have a good time. Fingers crossed for Sue for Wednesday.

Barbara, I saw my daughter off this afternoon. I thought I was holding it together well but when she burst in to tears, that was it. We were both howling in the street. I talked to her tonight and we were both ok again. I know they'll have a lovely life over there and we can talk and see each other over the internet. Went to see my dad this afternoon and he was asleep so I waited outside his room for 3/4 hour then decided to head home. Found out later, my sister had left just half an hour before me.

Hello Barbara, Joan, Christine and whoever else pops in. Just filled the fridge/freezer with some cauliflower cheese ready meals - what? You don't think I actually cook do you? Oh no, I leave all that to OH. So it's shop bought.

If I hear any whistling, it won't be the dog whining! He makes a long, low, mournful sound, rather like the Hound of the Baskervilles in the film.

Elizabeth, I hope your back is getting better.

Joan, glad you managed Sue's injection. I think it must be harder doing it for someone else than for yourself. I'd be afraid of hurting them because I am so heavy handed. My back seems to hurt most in the morning. I think it's muscular - hark at me, muscles - more like fat.

Christine, I know what you mean about daughters. Although I shed a few tears over all of mine when they left home - even ES who only moved to the other side of our estate.

Not liking these dark nights. We have a communal car park next to our row. It has a street light fixed to the side of the flats and belongs to the housing association and not the council. I've reported it not working 4 times, and they still haven't fixed it. They have two electricians, one is on paternity leave and the the other can't do it as he needs someone to hold the ladder for him and he is snowed under with emergency electrical work. The car park is pitch black and very scary. :? The children from the estate have to walk through it in the dark to get to and from school - glad I don't have to.

Joan, that's really good news that Sue will be home tomorrow. Not so good having carers in but they will be a big help to you both.
