Oh Barbara that did make me laugh! Yes I do know someone like that, my Aunt who passed away in January...delusions of grandeur they call it. Her house was pristine but we never really cared about going into her house because her garden was several acres of private woodland. Poor you Barbara, getting ticked off for using the table and being forced to balance tea and sandwiches on your knees. I don't think I could do that and would drop the cup and then I would be very popular!

Night I'm finally off to bed with my hot water bottle.

Elizabeth, I usually phone up when I want to go and my DIL has usually already arranged to go shopping with her mum or a friend. My son thinks her epilepsy meds affect her and it's as if she can't think straight so he doesn't argue and I don't feel they should change their arrangements to suit me. Yes, my son and S do support Middlesbrough. We've always lived just a few miles away from their ground. A few people have said that Middlesbrough didn't play well and that Norwich were the better team. Wow, those bags do seem too good for dog poo. Hope Lucy enjoyed her horse riding.

Barbara, I do like my tea in a china cup. It does taste better for some reason. Hope you held your pinky up. A white carpet? What a nightmare. So what do they use the table for if not to put things on? :? I hadn't cleaned up the paint pad and tray and there was a little bit of paint left so I ended up painting the ceiling above the cooker. It's in a sort of recess as there used to be a walk in pantry there. The wall was knocked down but there is still the bit hanging down from the ceiling, if that makes sense. Sat with my feet up since.

Oh Barbara, how awful not taking you home. It wouldn't have taken them two minutes. I guess it is the sort of thing you laugh at later. Bet you didn't at the time. Hope you get your results soon.

Joan, my eyes aren't too bad during the day. It's at night when I'm tired that they bother me. Thanks for asking. Hope you are ok.

It's very quiet here today. Hope everyone is ok. Called in to T*sc* today. They had the gluten free things on offer 3 for 2 so I bought 2 loaves of bread and a cake for the weekend. I've already had a slice so guess it won't make it to the weekend now.

    Morning everyone :)

Well what a lovely morning - we must make the most of it.

Thanks for the cuppa Barbara e015.gif

Best of luck to your GD :) I hope she is ok tonight. Tell her overnight it might feel frighteningly tight (like a vice) but take some paracetamol and the next day it's fine :)

Can you do a veg and bacon pie with veggie bacon too please :)

Hello to everyone else I hope you are all well

Good morning Barbara and Toni and everyone else who pops in.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts recently. It really helped.

After years of not being remotely bothered, I find I'm now waking up at silly o clock because of the light mornings. As I seldom get to sleep before one, this is becoming a real problem. I've been looking at black out curtains/blinds, but I really don't feel I can be bothered with the hassle - and expense! - right now though, so may try a sleep mask first.

I'll have a bacon buttie and a builders, then a little sleep in our Kath's bed. She won`t mind, and then I'll put some lovely new summery linen on, ready for her, or anyone else in need of a kip......Cate.x

PS. How do you get the little pics? Are they called avatars? I'm really thick when it comes to technology.

This is one of the main sites we use for our smilies

    http://www.cosgan.de/smilie.php

find the smilie you want, click on it and when the box asks about accessing your clipboard say no.

then click on where it lights up blue (that's the smilie link) click on copy and then paste it on here :)

Lucy has several of those eye masks and swears by them. I had black out blinds in her room when she was a baby as the sun rose into her bedroom!!

Problem is they must cover ALL of the window including edges????

Hello everyone, I'm having a picnic - no, not one of those that come in a basket, I mean the chocolate bar. It was in the last of our Christmas selection boxes. We might finish it all by next Christmas.

cate, I remember having a 'black out' roller blind as a child. It was dark green and really worked - until I began messing around with it and it tore, as it was made of very thick paper. Mum wasn't half cross. :? And now I'm feeling so much better, you can use my bed any time you like - except when I'm in it. I love being called 'our Kath', makes me feel all warm and cosy.

Barbara, I'll have a cuppa too, thank you. n078.gif

We were looking on our local market for an Azalea, OH has ordered a large pot and some ericaceous compost especially, but we couldn't find one locally and couldn't be bothered ordering on online. So we got yet another Hydrangea, already have one lace cap in the garden, and a climbing one. This is another lace cap as they encourage insects more than mop caps. We also got two ferns.

Hope those not mentioned are keeping well. I heard that the weather is going to be wet and windy (still) for a while as the Jet Stream is right over the country at the moment, but then it should improve. Let's hope we get some less windy weather soon.

Barbara how rude of Mrs Bucket to make you walk home in the snow in your slippers at midnight and hubby without a coat. I suppose you can look back and laugh now but it can't have been funny at the time!

Trying to decide on what tv to buy was a nightmare for me too Barbara so in the end OH and Lucy chose one. As long as the sound and picture are good I'm not fussed.

OH finally weeded the front garden and this time left my plants alone without pruning them to an inch of their life. My hollihocks in the back garden are now taller than me but one still remains in a pot and needs planting out. I'm a great fan of ferns and hostas Kath.

Cate we bought black out curtains for Lucy's room and they were less than £30 a pair, it might have been much less actually. She went to D*n*lms. Her room is so cosy now as it blocks out the lamp light outside and makes the room feel snug.

Toni it was a lovely morning so I sat out in the garden and I'm now nicely tanned. Dan settled in the kitchen, sometimes he likes his own space and to record things off the internet without as spoiling it. It has now clouded over.

OH went off to London on his scooter ages ago and said he'd be back by one. Not heard from him since so he's either broken down (a common occurence) or he's gassing with his friends.

Toady hasn't been spotted loitering in the cafe for ages, come on Toady its your only chance of a rest from that tedious paperwork and house clearing. I'll put the kettle on for a brew.
Joan its nice and warm today hope the doggy and Sue are doing well.

    Take care all

Well what a wet end to a beautiful day, pouring down.
I had a little accident yesterday,on top of our fridge freezer is a large plastic box that has cling film ,foil and a variety of plastic bags including steamer bags which I use for some veg ,these bags were on the bottom so I had to get it down putting it back up the container with the foil in slipped out and hit me on the bridge of my nose I'm now spouting a cut on nose which bled quite a lot ,I'm just glad it hasn't bruised,I went to have my hair cut today and everyone I saw that I knew wanted to know what I had done .Need less to say the box needs a new home. Barbara, I hope your GD doesn't find gluten intolerance too difficult. I only have to steer clear of wheat. I can eat gluten from elsewhere. I did wonder at first how I would manage but I'm used to sometimes doing without, especially if I'm eating out or at someone's house, or I buy special foods. Some things taste quite dry but you can get used to it. T*sc* are really good now. They have several breads, pastas, even cakes now. They also do a few frozen things like pizzas, sausages, fish fingers etc. If someone is actually ceoliac, they can get food on prescription. Hope your GD did get her brace and you got out somewhere.

Toni, not too nice here today. Very cloudy and stated getting a bit cold just after lunch. We are getting a few spots of rain now although it was forecast for heavy downpours.

Cate, it is awful when you don't get enough sleep. I have a stick on blackout blind. It means I have to put it up each night and take it down in the morning so it is a bit of a bother. It does help a lot though, although if you don't keep it right up against the window, it lets some light in. My son has given me their roller blinds but I can't see how to keep them against the window. My daughter uses ones from M*therc*re. They have suction caps on each corner and seem to work well. I keep an eye mask on the bed handy in case I need it. Just in case you meant the smilies at the side of the box, you just click on the one you want. Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Kath, you still have (or should I say had) a selection box? All my Xmas chocs have long gone. Azelias are lovely but so are hydrangeas. What colours have you got? That jet stream has a lot to answer for, causing all the problems with the weather.

Elizabeth, thank goodness your OH left your plants this time. I remember you telling us he'd pruned them. Wow, the hollyhocks sound wonderful. I have tried growing them form seed but not had any luck. I'd love some. You mentioned hosta. I didn't have any luck with those either because of slugs. Although I don't like using slug pellets, I did use a few last year and managed to save one hosta. I got a lovely surprise looking round the front garden this afternoon and found it's come back again. Hope your OH has made it home.

Mig, ouch. I hope your nose isn't too sore now. I always tense up when getting things down from a high shelf or putting them back, just waiting to be hit by something.

Got to work today to find the table had been redone and looks good now. The painter was taking chunks out of one of the outside window frames which he was supposed to be painting. These windows are very old originals, I think over 100 years old. Guess any rotting bits need to be taken off. :? I asked my boss if he'd had a good bank holiday weekend. Forgot he'd been to Wembley. He said no, he'd had a horrible weekend. Ooops!

morning all the sun is shinning but the sky is black... :o
Mig I hope the nose is healing..it a shock when something jumps on yo9u like this..its usually my cupboards.. :x hope your hair appointment went well you, never know with these things...
Christine did I say my Gd had gluten intolerance..meant our Dil...her tummy was swelling and she was tied and had irritable. bowels..so they tested her ..must say I liked the texture of the bread..
so the table is back to new and the window frames..I like to watch them being patched up we used to have old sash ones and they had to be done..yes thanks my GD had her brace...and last night she didn't sleep well but didnt want anything to help..
Cate the forum is lovely for all kinds of support and you never feel alone ..I am a big believe in talking after joining the forum..sorry you are not sleeping ..we have just bought a blackout blind for the room I sleep in but like Toni says the light seeps in form the side..but OH cut it wrong... it wasn't expensive from Dunhe*m mill
Kath good to see you posting i was getting worried things wern't right...but glad to see you are feeling well..the hydrangeas DO SEEM TO BE DOING WELL THIS YEAR AND THE COLUORS OF SOME OR STUNNING,,OOPS CAP LOCK I nearly bought a blue one...wish I had now... :?
Elizabeth..yes I was annoyed and it was many years ago we didnt have children then...thank goodness could just imagine us all in the snow... glad to see your garden has been weeded...and I hope OH got home safe and sound..he sounds like mine..never rings when he is late  yes the TV saga goes on, I want a smart one but OH is not techie so was wondering if he would end up shouting at it :o
Like I said my GD had her brace fitted but they only did the top one and she goes back in 3 months to have the bottom one done...they said it was the only appointment they had..so glad she didnt have to pay ..because like Elizabeth said it can cost a lot and they have changes the rules for them ..they are stopping doing them on the NHS unless really bad..its not her dentist that does them but they referred her to orthodontist..and I think its a private one..so she is lucky..it just cost £12 for some wax for her gums..
Here's Cate's bacon butty and builders sorry its late...and there is veggie options for Toni and wheat free bread for Christine...hope toady is doing ok I know her eyes wer bothering her...hope you all havea good day...xxxx

Hello everyone, hope all are well, sunny here, but a chilly wind. We just had a quick downpour which pleased OH as now he doesn't have to water the plants.

Barbara, the article in this link might help you turn your pink Hydrangea to blue.
    http://www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com/colorchange.html
My old one was blue when planted and stayed blue for a couple of years, now we tend to get half blue and half pink - don't know why.

mig, I've been buying my daughter Emily, the one that's into retro stuff, the vintage Woman's Weekly, this months is all about food and cooking with recipes from every decade of the 20th century. Left overs were the order of the day through both wars. I love stew and dumplings. :D I hope your poor nose gets better soon. :o

Elizabeth, we have several Hostas, some in pots and some in the garden itself. They do attract the slugs and snails though. It's the first time we've tried ferns, so don't know how that will go. :?

I'm dawdling today. I've not slept well lately and certain now that it is because I ran out of oneprazole so all the food I eat isn't settling and there is acid reflux. Then everytime I change position in bed I get more horrible coughing, by time it has calmed down its time to change position again.

Unfortunately Hostas do get eaten by the slugs. Is the change in colour for hydrangas due to the soil content? I think I'll need to plant out some friends for my sedum Autumn Joy as they look a bit lonely. It's only taken 4 years to get OH to stop cutting them down to the bare minimum every time e weeds. I read him the riot act before hand this time.

I have the worlds most sensitive nose. I flinch everytime anyone comes near me.

Barbara I never ring the OH now. I just know he'll be late. Years ago when I first got RA and and toddler and newborn Son he used to go out every evening and wouldn't come home until I rang. It got so bad that I would ring and say nothing. I've still not forgiven him for leaving me in so much pain every evening.

Oh dear Applerose I'm sure the boss as forgiven you seeing as your Son and GS are fans too!

Really sorry cos I must post this.

Joan, how are your doggies? Are you able to take them out or is the weather too bad just now?

Mig, hope your nose gets better quickly. I think stew always tastes better the next day.

Barbara, it was a strange day here too, sun and black clouds, hot and cold form one minute to the next. I can imagine a brace being very irritating till you get used to it. Hope it doesn't take long for your GD. My ex-husband used to bury rusty nails next to the roots of hydrangeas to turn them blue. They need very acid soil to turn them blue. Thanks for the bacon butty. it's a while since I've had one.

Kath, I like it when it rains too, but only during the night, so I don't have to water the garden. I think blue and pink on the same hydrangea would look good.

Elizabeth, sounds as if you're having a rough time. Hope things settle down soon and you get some decent sleep.

My GS, who's 4, in Australia decided to get his own breakfast while my daughter was in the shower. He poured a whole big bottle of milk in to the plastic container that the cereal was in and sat on the floor to eat it.

Someone said they'd heard we were in for hailstones in the next couple of days. Hope that's not right. Think we're all ready for the summer to start now.

Will be seeing doc at some point next week & hope to clear up a couple of issues maybe, til then I am pottering round doing basic chores & little bits of gardening etc, odds & ends but nothing much over & above. Will be glad to partake of some of TK's tea she kindly left for me :) and hope to be back soon, love to all, toady xxx

Oh Dear Toady :( I hope the Doc can help you out a bit :? ((()))

Elizabeth - I totally get that you can't completely forgive your OH for leaving you struggling and in pain with two tinies!!

One day maybe when you can see he really 'gets it'.

I remember my husband getting cross with me once when my back had 'gone' since then he did his back in one one occasion and he was almost crying with pain. He was so remorseful for his lack of empathy.

Joan? Where is Joan? I hope she's ok :? I bet the dogs are reluctant to venture out in this weather

Christine - I love the story of your GS getting his own brekkie!! bless him. I used to leave Charley's out for her ready when she was small (about 6 ) and an early riser. She never tried anything risky :)

I hope there's no more hail? I heard end of next week temps may be up to 25!!! :D

KathT that article was interesting thanks. An old forum friend Cris (skezier) offered me some of her old chains to turn them blue :D She's down in Cornwall.

I hope your ferns do ok. We have a dark side of the garden here too...so I am still looking for ideas :)

    Keep well ((()))

    Barbara
I am thinking probably your GD is getting used to her brace by now? Bless her. I think private they cost about £2,500 so well worth having done on the NHS. She will really be gald she had them done :)

Right on wards and upwards for me!
