Does osteoarthritis in the knee make the whole of the leg ache?

It can do - you are unconciously moving differently to try to reduce the pain and this places a greater strain on the leg muscles as they are not being used properly.
If you haven't already it may be wise to invest in a walking stick. It should be held in the hand opposite to the affected knee and your hand should be just above hip height. The idea is that as you step forward with the affected leg the opposite hand comes forward and you can take the strain of your weight off the bad leg through the stick. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
I agree with DD. It's probably because you're walking awkwardly. I've always found that doing the exercises after coming back from eg supermarket helps. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
