Have arthritis in the ankle resulting from an IM nail and fixing 10 years ago
I have recently been diagnosed with arthritis in my left ankle linked to a distal tibia fracture I had ten years ago. I have an IM nail and fixings.
There is some stiffness and I'd like to know if anyone has had similar and the best way of managing it. Removal of the fixings isn't possible. Thank you

Hi @Yoginimo108 - welcome to the online community!
I see you have arthritis in your ankle, and you're wondering if there is any advice people can give on coping with the stiffness you're experiencing.
Both heat and exercise (specifically stretching) can help with stiffness. I have some microwavable wheat germ bags (which I can add essential oils to to make smell nice) which can be applied to my painful joints, and hot baths (if you can have them) or showers can really help.
i'm not sure how much your movement is or isn't inhibited by your IM nail, but there are some specific exercises you can do to help the arthritis in your ankle. These help to stretch and strengthen the specific muscles which can prevent stiffness and help with long-term mobility.
