I am not new to the discomforts of arthritis and its took a very long time for me to get a diagnosis because I am seronegative but have Inflammatory Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis.

The areas effected more than others are my hands (they keep me awake hence why at just before 5am I write this lol) my left hip they have all got synovitis around the bones. this is been explained as inflammatory arthritis

by left knee right ankle and feet have osteoarthritis in where nodules are forming at the side of my feet around toes

my spine I have spondylitis in my neck but to my surprise just yesterday I was diagnoised with 3 slipped discs and am 1.5” less in height silly but it mattered to me..

I have been started on naproxen and lamoprozole and waiting for am appointment to see the clinic nurse to start Sulfasalazine.

I have lots of queries in my head but not to bombard you all i will ask the for front questions now.

1) Is Seronegative Inflammatory Arthritis same as Rheumatoid Arthritis, RA runs in my maternal side

2) is Sulfasalazine the best for my condition is there something else that can help too

3) is this a progressive disease

I have no questions for Osteoarthritis lived with that for years other than has anyone found good footwear that doesnt hurt ?

Thank you for reading and any answers

Take care all X

Hello @BJS welcome to the online community

We are a friendly peer support group who offer help to others whose lives are affected by living with arthritis, so we are glad you found us and whilst we are not medically qualified we will endeavour to share some of our knowledge and information with you.

You ask whether seronegative inflammatory arthritis is the same as rheumatoid arthritis - one of the tests for RA is the anti CCP antibodies. If the test is positive you are very likely to have RA, if the test is negative it does not mean that you do not the disease because not everyone with RA has this antibody. I was confused when I was first diagnosed but it is still with me so I must have it!?

I attach a link about sulfasalazine and suggest you seek medical advice to clarify your concern

You ask if this progressive, well this is one for a discussion thread all of its own. It can certainly be controlled and as one medic said to me that I was far more likely to die with it that from it . I leave this one open for our members to debate..........

This link shows a recent discussion about shoes I hope it is helpful.

Poppyjane my blood work is always out of sync.. has been for years and they don’t understand why.. so my ANA’s are 1620 but everything else is within or just below above range.. I have synovitis in my hands and hips so with the family history of RA they have put me in the bracket of seronegative inflammatory arthritis.. I will now be able to access help that I know I’ve needed for over 40 years as my problems started in my late 20’s X
